아쓰시 히가시타니 교수의 연구실은 식물과 초파리 등 모델 생물을 활용해 고온 스트레스가 생식 발달에 미치는 영향을 분자생물학적·유전학적 관점에서 연구하고 있습니다. 특히 식물의 수분 성숙 단계에서의 고온에 의한 남성 불임 메커니즘을 규명하며, 옥신 생합성 유전자(YUCCA)의 억제와 세포 분열 정지 등 핵심 분자 경로를 밝혀내고 있습니다. 또한, 근육 위축, 열충격에 의한 근육 파손, 미세방사선 반응 등 생물의 스트레스 반응을 다루는 생물학적 기전 연구도 병행하고 있습니다.
