Bisei Ohkawara 교수의 연구실은 신경근육 접합부의 신호전달 메커니즘과 배아 발달에서의 세포 신호 전달 경로를 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 Wnt/비정형 세포극성 경로, TGF-β/SMAD 경로, 그리고 뉴런-근육 접합부의 분자적 기반을 규명하며 발달 생물학과 신경질환의 기전을 탐구하고 있습니다. 또한, 프로렌닌 수용체와 V-ATPase 등 기존에 알려지지 않은 신호 분자의 역할을 밝혀내는 데에도 기여하고 있습니다.
