The tunneling resistance and electronic structure of metal-molecule-metal junctions based on oligoacene (benzene, naphthalene, anthracene, and tetracene) thiol and dithiol molecules were measured and correlated using conducting probe atomic force microscopy (CP-AFM) in conjunction with ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). Nanoscopic tunnel junctions (~10 nm(2)) were formed by contacting oligoacene self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on flat Ag, Au, or Pt substrates with metalized AFM tips
High-mobility and low-voltage-operated organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) are demonstrated by the design of a new fluorinated benzothiadiazole-based conjugated polymer with fluorinated high-k polymer dielectrics. A record-breaking high hole mobility of 9.0 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) for benzothiadiazole-based semiconducting polymers is achieved by the excellent planarity of the semiconducting polymer.
Bodipy-based polymers, which possess a high absorption coefficient with a bandgap of approximately 1.6 eV, have been used as electron donor in solution-processed bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells containing PCBM as acceptor. A power conversion efficiency (PCE) of approximately 2% has been achieved with V(oc) of approximately 0.8 eV and J(sc) of approximately 4.8 mA cm(-2).
A suitable insulating polymer material that is compatible with the fabrication process of organic transistors and has excellent electrical properties is critically required for the next-generation flexible organic electronics. In this study, using a one-step polymerization method, we synthesized two different solution-processable polyimides (PIs) incorporated with abundant trifluoromethyl groups. Not only were the two resulting PIs-termed 6FDA-6FDAM-PI and 6FDA-TFMB-PI-well soluble in organic so
Electroluminescence from quantum dots (QDs) is a suitable photon source for futuristic displays offering hyper-realistic images with free-form factors. Accordingly, a nondestructive and scalable process capable of rendering multicolored QD patterns on a scale of several micrometers needs to be established. Here, nondestructive direct photopatterning for heavy-metal-free QDs is reported using branched light-driven ligand crosslinkers (LiXers) containing multiple azide units. The branched LiXers e
The concurrent enhancement of short-circuit current (<i>J</i> SC) and open-circuit voltage (<i>V</i> OC) is a key problem in the preparation of efficient organic solar cells (OSCs). In this paper, we report efficient and stable OSCs based on an asymmetric non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) IPC-BEH-IC2F. The NFA consists of a weak electron-donor core dithienothiophen[3,2-<i>b</i>]-pyrrolobenzothiadiazole (BEH) and two kinds of strong electron-acceptor (A) units [9<i>H</i>-indeno[1
PSS with a nonionic surfactant lowered the interfacial energy of EGaIn with flat stretchable metal surfaces; hence EGaIn was coated uniformly on the stretchable metal surfaces. Strain sensors were fabricated as a demonstrative example of an application that utilizes the stable interface.
