More specific pathologic descriptions need to be employed in pathologic report forms to provide proper information to predict SPT recurrence after resection. Future studies emphasizing the standardized pathologic evaluation of pancreatic SPTs may unveil the enigmatic nature of pancreatic SPTs.
SPNs of the pancreas carry a favorable course. Despite having aggressive properties, patients can still survive for more than 10 years as long as the tumor can be resected completely.
Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) will result in removal of important multiorgans in upper intestinal tract and subsequently secondary physiologic change. In the past, surgeons just focused on the safety of surgical procedure; however, PD is regarded as safe and widely applied to treatment of periampullary lesions. Practical issues after PD, such as, effect of duodenectomy, metabolic surgery-like effect, alignment effect of gastrointestinal continuity, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease were summa
Choledochal cyst is a rare disease in the Western world, but a high incidence is noted in Asia. Complete cyst excision with Roux-en-y hepaticoenterostomy is the treatment of choice for choledochal cyst, which has been attempted laparoscopically with the advancement of laparoscopic experience. Recently, a telemanipulative robotic surgical system was introduced, providing instruments with wrist-type end-effectors and 3-dimensional visualization of the operative field. Herein, we present a case of
Minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy has been regarded as a safe and effective treatment for benign and borderline malignant pancreatic lesions. However, its application for left-sided pancreatic cancer is still being debated. The clinical evidence for radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy (RAMPS)-based minimally invasive approaches for left-sided pancreatic cancer was reviewed. Potential indications and surgical concepts for minimally invasive RAMPS were suggested.
Gallbladder carcinomas associated with APBDJ were significantly related to relatively young female patients without gallbladder stones. Survival outcomes in these patients were not different from those of gallbladder carcinoma without APBDJ. In particular, the P-C type of APBDJ seemed to be more associated with relatively advanced gallbladder carcinomas, and patients with incidentally detected gallbladder carcinomas with APBDJ had superior survival.
The role of laparoscopic radical cholecystectomy (LRC) in the surgical management of T2 gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) is still controversial. The medical records of patients with T2 GBC treated with radical cholecystectomy were retrospectively reviewed. In this study, we compare the short- and long-term oncologic outcomes, using propensity score matching analysis, of patients with T2 GBC who underwent LRC and open radical cholecystectomy (ORC).Among 183 patients, 86 were selected by propensity scor
