Chikara Masuta 교수의 연구실은 바이러스 유전자재를 활용한 식물 유전자 조절 및 병원균 저항성 기작을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 Cucumber mosaic virus(CMV) 기반 바이러스 벡터를 이용해 유전자 침묵화, 병원균 저항성 유전자 발현, 그리고 외래 단백질 발현 등 다양한 유전자 기반 기술을 개발하고 있습니다. 또한, 식물 바이러스의 병원성 조절 인자와 숙주-바이러스 상호작용 메커니즘을 규명하는 데에도 주력하고 있습니다. 이는 농업 생물공학과 병원균 저항성 식물 육성에 기여하는 기초 연구입니다.

Gene silencing through transcriptional repression can be induced by targeting double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) to a gene promoter. We have compared the effects of two elicitors of defense-related processes on rice (Oryza sativa L.) suspension cells. Both chitosan and salicylic acid induced the accumulation of extracellular chitinase, thickening of the cell wall, and a variety of cytological changes in treated cells.
