다이스케 히라노 교수의 연구실은 극지방의 해빙과 해양 순환 간의 상호작용을 중심으로, 특히 남극과 북극의 빙하-해양 상호작용, 빙하 기반 융해 메커니즘, 그리고 해양 수온 변화가 해수면 상승에 미치는 영향을 연구합니다. 주로 남극의 토텐 빙하와 북극의 바르로 캐년 폴리냐 지역을 대상으로 해양학적 관측과 수치 모의를 융합한 정밀한 수심 및 수질 분석을 수행합니다. 특히 따뜻한 해류가 빙하 아래로 유입되는 경로와 열전달 메커니즘, 그리고 다이너믹한 해양 순환과 빙하 융해 간의 연관성을 규명하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다.

Abstract The nature of the Barrow Coastal Polynya (BCP), which forms episodically off the Alaska coast in winter, is examined using mooring data, atmospheric reanalysis data, and satellite‐derived sea‐ice concentration and production data.
