The strong acid triflimide ((CF3SO2)2NH) protonates chiral oxazaborolidines to form superactive, stable, chiral Lewis acids which are highly effective catalysts for a wide variety of enantioselective Diels-Alder reactions, documented herein by more than 20 examples.
The cationic chiral Lewis acids 1 and 2, generated by triflic acid protonation of the corresponding neutral oxazaborolidines, serve as excellent catalysts for Diels-Alder addition of cyclopentadiene to a wide variety of dienophiles. Adducts have been obtained in excellent yield and enantioselectivity from alpha,beta-unsaturated esters, lactones, and cyclic ketones. The absolute facial selectivity for each of these substrates follows a common pattern which differs from that observed with alpha,be
The chiral oxazaborolidinium salt 1 (X = TfO) is an excellent catalyst for the cyanosilylation of methyl ketones promoted by trimethylsilyl cyanide and diphenylmethyl phosphine oxide as co-reactants (to generate Ph(2)MePOTMS(N=C:) as a reactive intermediate). The face selectivity of this reaction parallels that previously observed for the corresponding reaction of aldehydes. A unifying and rational mechanistic explanation is provided for these enantioselective reactions. Evidence is presented to
The chiral oxazaborolidinium salts 1 and 2 are excellent catalysts for the enantioselective cyanosilylation of a wide variety of aldehydes (see Table 1) using trimethylsilyl (TMS) cyanide and triphenylphosphine oxide as the source of a new reactive cyanide donor. This donor appears to be the isocyanophosphorane Ph3P(OTMS)(N=C:) (4). The novel process described herein has several advantages: predictability of absolute configuration of cyanohydrin products from a mechanistic model (3), high yields
The chiral oxazaborolidinium cation 1 promotes Diels-Alder reactions between 2-triisopropylsilyloxy-1,3-butadiene and a number of unsymmetrical 1,4-benzoquinones in a highly enantioselective and structurally selective manner. The basis for the enantioselectivity is explained rationally in terms of a preferred type of transition-state assembly. Selection rules have been developed that allow the prediction of the principal reaction product of Diels-Alder reaction between unsymmetrical diene and qu
A catalytic route toward chiral Morita-Baylis-Hillman esters by asymmetric coupling between alpha,beta-acetylenic esters, aldehydes, and trimethylsilyl iodide has been developed (see scheme). The reaction proceeds with high to excellent enantioselectivities, and the products can be transformed into beta-branched derivatives in a single step and with excellent retention of configuration. TMS = trimethylsilyl.
A catalytic route to highly functionalized chiral 2-pyrazolines by an asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of ethyl diazoacetate with alpha-substituted and alpha,beta-disubstituted acroleins has been developed; in the presence of chiral (S)-oxazaborolidinium ion as catalyst, the reaction proceeded with high to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee).
Chiral Lewis acid catalyzed asymmetric formation of cyclobutanones from α-silyloxyacroleins and α-alkyl or α-aryl diazoesters has been developed. In the presence of a chiral oxazaborolidinium ion catalyst, various α-silyloxycyclobutanones possessing a chiral β-quaternary center were synthesized in high yield (up to 91%) with excellent enantio- and diastereoselectivity (up to 98% ee and up to >20:1 dr) through tandem cyclopropanation/semipinacol rearrangement. The synthetic potential of this meth
Boron Lewis acid catalysis has a long history and has become one of the most powerful methods for organic synthesis. In addition to achiral boron catalysts such as BX3 (X = F, Cl, Br) and B(C6F5)3, chiral boron catalysts are also significant synthetic tools used by organic chemists in academic laboratories and industry. Since first reported by Corey et al. in 2002 ( Corey et al. <i>J. Am. Chem. Soc.</i> 2002 , 124 , 3808 ), the chiral oxazaborolidinium
Curcuma is used to treat skin diseases and colic inflammatory disorders, and in insect repellants and antimicrobial and antidiabetic medications. Two Curcuma species (C. aromatica and C. longa) grown in Jeju-do and Jin-do were used in this study. Methanolic extracts were analyzed by (1)H NMR spectroscopy, and metabolite profiling coupled with multivariate analysis was applied to characterize the differences between species or origin. PCA analysis showed significantly greater differences between
