Spinel LiMn2O4 is a low-cost, environmentally friendly, and highly abundant material for Li-ion battery cathodes. Here, we report the hydrothermal synthesis of single-crystalline beta-MnO2 nanorods and their chemical conversion into free-standing single-crystalline LiMn2O4 nanorods using a simple solid-state reaction. The LiMn2O4 nanorods have an average diameter of 130 nm and length of 1.2 microm. Galvanostatic battery testing showed that LiMn2O4 nanorods have a high charge storage capacity at
Monoclinic S8 , an uncommon allotrope of sulfur at room temperature, can be formed when common orthorhombic S8 is heat-treated under enclosed environments in nanometer dimensions. Monoclinic S8 prevents the formation of soluble polysulfides during battery operation, resulting in unprecedented cycling performance over 1000 cycles under the highest sulfur content to date.
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) with suitable bio-compatible coatings have been used in biomedicine, particularly in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), tissue engineering, and drug delivery applications. In this study, we describe the synthesis of SPION and its use for experimental in-vivo applications in MRI. SPION with a mean size of 6 nm have been prepared under inert atmosphere, in a polymeric starch matrix, by controlled chemical coprecipitation of magnetite phase from aqu
A simple process enables to synthesize tungsten oxide with various nanomorphologies, i.e. nanorods, nanowires, and nanosheets. The tungsten hexachloride (WCl 6 ) was used as a raw material and the tungsten oxide nanoparticles were obtained by solvothermal treatment with solvents, i.e., ethanol, mixed solvent (ethanol+water), and water, at 200°C for 10 h. The various crystalline phases of tungsten oxide, such as monoclinic W 18 O 49 nanorods, hexagonal WO 3 platelets, and monoclinic WO 3 nanoshee
Lead-free piezoelectric 0.5(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3-0.5Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 (BCTZ) nanoparticles (NPs) composed of earth-abundant elements were adopted for use in a flexible composite-based piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) that can convert mechanical deformation into electrical energy. The solid-state synthesized BCTZ NPs and silver nanowires (Ag NWs) chosen to reduce the toxicity of the filler materials were blended with a polydimethylsi
The reversible electrochemical activity of the Na3V2O2x(PO4)2F3−2x compound in an aqueous solution is reported for the first time.
Lithium-sulfur batteries (Li-S) are considered the most promising systems for next-generation energy storage devices due to their high theoretical energy density and relatively low cost. However, the practical applications of Li-S batteries are hindered by the poor electronic conductivity of sulfur and capacity degradation resulting from the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs). Herein, we demonstrate use of a tin-sulfide (SnS2) modified separator to facilitate the redox rea
