Aerosol optical properties (aerosol optical thickness, Ångström exponent, size distribution, and single scattering albedo) over east Asia were examined using long‐term measurements of sky radiation at Mandalgovi, Dunhuang, Yinchuan, and Sri‐Samrong sites of the Skyradiometer Network (SKYNET). Also included were sky radiation measurements at Anmyon, Gosan in Korea, and Amami‐Oshima in Japan during April for examining optical properties of Asian dust. Results show that the seasonal average of aero
We developed a method of retrieving aerosol optical properties and their associated radiative forcing from simultaneously measured sky radiation and surface solar flux data. The method is then applied to data sets collected at Mandalgovi, Dunhuang, Yinchuan, and Sri‐Samrong sites of the Skyradiometer Network (SKYNET), and at Anmyon, Gosan, and Amami‐Oshima, to examine the aerosol characteristics of east Asia. From the analysis for the SKYNET sites it was found that aerosols in east Asia have sma
The fracture‐toughness‐determining mechanism of silicon carbide with additions of yttria and alumina was studied. Observations of indentation crack profiles revealed that significant crack deflection had occurred. Median deflection angles increased with increased volume fractions of the second phases, which was accompanied by increased fracture toughness.
This study compared the effects of the pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block and supra-inguinal fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) on postoperative analgesia and quadriceps strength following total hip arthroplasty under general anesthesia. A total of 58 patients were randomized to receive either PENG block (PENG group) or supra-inguinal FICB (FICB group) following anesthetic induction. The primary outcomes were the postoperative pain scores. Patients were randomized to receive either PENG b
This study was designed to evaluate the effect of target controlled infusion of propofol on QTc interval and tracheal intubation. Twenty-five unpremedicated, ASA class I or II patients were selected and target concentration infusion of propofol at 5 microg x ml(-1) was used throughout the study. The QTc interval was measured before anaesthetic induction (baseline, T1), 10 min after propofol infusion (T2), immediately after tracheal intubation (T3), and 1 min after tracheal intubation (T4). The Q
The advantage of fast firing depends not only on the finer grain‐size effect at the sintering temperature, but also on the smaller pore‐size effect which results from the restricted pore growth. Pore growth due to the differential sintering during heating was observed to occur at relatively low temperature regions, and rapid passing through the region restricted the pore growth and enhanced the densification.
Both PPV and PVI were able to predict fluid responsiveness; their predictive abilities were maintained in the prone position.
Compared to conventional sintering of Y 2 O 3 ‐doped ZrO 2 using a slow heating rate of 10°C/min, microwave sintering and fast firing using a rapid heating rate of about 500°C/min resulted in lower final sintered densities. It is attributed to the residual chlorine in commerical zirconia powders manufactured by the chloride process. By calcining at 1100°C for 1 h to remove residual chlorines from the powder compacts, near full densities (>99% of theoretical) could be obtained by both fast fir
These preliminary data show that injection at MTrPs in patients with NCCs not only alleviated pain and reduced the frequency of cramps but also lessened the severity of insomnia as measured by the ISI. A larger randomized controlled trial is needed to confirm these findings and determine whether the effect lasts over the long term.
Abstract Microstructure evolution and its influence on the mechanical properties of (Ti65.5Fe34.5)100− x Nb x (x = 0, 3, 5 and 7) ultrafine composites has been investigated. The Nb-containing alloys exhibit simultaneously improved compressive mechanical properties, i.e. high yield (1.9–2.2 GPa) and fracture (2.2–2.6 GPa) strength together with large plasticity (6–13%), due to a favorable modulation of their ultrafine eutectic microstructure. The enhanced mechanical properties are strongly relate
We did not observe a statistical difference in improvements to the clinical variables among the four different methods. However, further studies regarding the effectiveness of a mixture of topical capsaicin and ketoprofen in patients with MPS should be considered.
After combining the dissection and radiological findings, the single-injection ultrasound-guided PENG blocks with volumes of 10, 20, and 30 mL do not support motor sparing or selective anterior hip capsule innervation in a clinical setting. If early rehabilitation is needed, high-volume PENG block might not be the ideal option, and persisting pain after PENG block might be attributed in part to the lack of obturator nerve articular branches blockade.
Predicting fluid responsiveness in patients under mechanical ventilation with low tidal volume (VT) is challenging. This study evaluated the ability of carotid corrected flow time (FTc) assessed by ultrasound for predicting the fluid responsiveness during low VT ventilation. Patients under postoperative mechanical ventilation and clinically diagnosed with hypovolemia were enrolled. Carotid FTc and pulse pressure variation (PPV) were measured at VT of 6 and 10 mL/kg predicted body weight (PBW). F

The aim of this randomised study was to compare the incidence of intravascular injections during S1 transforaminal epidural steroid injection performed in the anteroposterior and oblique views. We also compared epidural spread patterns of contrast media, which included 201 injections at the S1 level. The overall incidence of intravascular injection during S1 transforaminal epidural steroid injection in the anteroposterior view was 29% (29/99), significantly higher than in the oblique view (11%,
