RFA is a safe and effective first-line treatment for early-stage HCC, with a 5-year survival rate of 67.9%. High serum α-fetoprotein level, advanced Child-Pugh class, and presence of portosystemic collateral vessels had a significant negative effect on overall survival.
HCCs and AEPs show different enhancing features on the delayed dynamic and hepatobiliary phases of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI. Gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI may, therefore, help to differentiate between HCC and AEP.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been an emerging major health problem, and the most common cause of chronic liver disease in Western countries. Traditionally, liver biopsy has been gold standard method for quantification of hepatic steatosis. However, its invasive nature with potential complication as well as measurement variability are major problem. Thus, various imaging studies have been used for evaluation of hepatic steatosis. Ultrasonography provides fairly good accuracy to d
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as an effective loco-regional treatment modality for malignant hepatic tumors. Indeed, studies have demonstrated that RFA of early stage hepatocellular carcinomas can provide comparable overall survival to surgical resection. However, the incidence of local tumor progression (LTP) after RFA is significantly higher than that of surgical resection. Thus, to overcome this limitation, multiple electrode radiofrequency (RF) systems that use a multi-channel RF
Background Allograft damage (hepatic parenchymal damage) after liver transplant is associated with the degree of necroinflammation in graft liver. According to a recent animal study, shear-wave dispersion slope obtained at US shear-wave elastography (SWE) is associated with necroinflammatory activity in the liver. Purpose To evaluate the role of shear-wave dispersion slope in detecting allograft damage after liver transplant. Materials and Methods In this prospective study, 104 liver transplant
The mean liver stiffness values in living donors ranged from 2.05 to 2.12 kilopascals and did not differ significantly for either gender or age. The 1cm-S and 70% S methods were significantly more reliable compared with the 2cm-per-slice method.
Purpose To evaluate the diagnostic performance of combined positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonace (MR) imaging (hereafter, PET/MR imaging) in the detection of liver metastases and to assess its prognostic value in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLMs). Materials and Methods Institutional review board approval was obtained for this retrospective study, with waiver of informed consent. A total of 55 patients with 98 CRLMs who underwent PET/MR imaging and multid
LLR can provide significantly better local tumor control than p-RFA for small single HCCs in subcapsular, perivascular, and anteroinferolateral liver portions and thus may be the preferred treatment option for these tumors.
Background Recently introduced no-touch radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has the potential to improve local tumor control. Purpose To evaluate midterm clinical outcomes of monopolar no-touch RFA in single HCCs 2.5 cm or smaller. Materials and Methods In this multicenter clinical trial (<i>ClinicalTrials.gov</i>: NCT03375281), participants were evaluated for eligibility from November 2017 to January 2019. Patients with single HCCs 2.5 cm or smaller planning to be tr
Addition of HBP hepatobiliary phase images can significantly improve the diagnostic performance of gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MR imaging in the detection of 1-2-cm HCC hepatocellular carcinoma s in liver transplantation candidates. In addition, gadoxetic acid-enhanced MR imaging showed 92.1% accuracy in patient allocation on the basis of the Milan criteria and UNOS United Network for Organ Sharing guidelines.
