Ga Eun Nam 교수의 연구실은 비만, 대사증후군 및 체중 변동성이 연관된 만성질환의 발병 위험을 중심으로 한 인구기반 대규모 코hort 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 특히 당뇨병 환자에서 체중 변화와 뇌질환(치매, 알츠하이머병) 및 심혈관 질환 간의 연관성을 규명하며, 한국인을 대상으로 한 비만 진단 기준의 유효성과 예방 전략의 필요성을 제시하고 있습니다. 연구는 임상적 실용성과 정책적 적용 가능성을 고려한 실증적 접근을 중심으로 전개됩니다.

The 2019 Obesity Fact Sheet provides information on changes in obesity dynamics during the past decade and obesity-related social factors in the Korean adult population. This report might constitute a cornerstone by which to establish targets for future interventions for reversing the rise in the prevalence of obesity and reducing the burden of obesity in Korea.
Based on the 2020 Obesity Fact Sheet, there was a dramatic increase in the prevalence of class II and III obesity from 2009 to 2018 among young adults, as well as the population as a whole. Optimal strategies for the prevention and treatment of obesity are needed considering the recent obesity epidemic in South Korea.
Body weight variability was associated with increased risks of MI, stroke, and all-cause mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes and may be a predictor of cardiovascular outcomes in such patients. Excessive body weight is associated with increased health risks in humans. In general, the risk of mortality increases with greater obesity. A lower baseline BMI was associated with increased risks of all-cause dementia and AD in patients with new-onset type 2 diabetes. Weight loss or weight gain after the diagnosis of diabetes was associated with an increased risk of all-cause dementia. Weight loss was associated with an increased risk of AD.
