The purpose of this study was to examine the association between bisphosphonate exposure and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) in Korean patients with osteoporosis. A nested case-control study was performed using the claims database during 2002 to 2010 provided by the National Health Insurance Service. We identified a cohort of individuals with diagnosis of osteoporosis during 2002 to 2010. Cases and controls were identified during 2004 to 2010, and the date of potential cases of ONJ was defined as
The pattern of higher healthcare utilization among MA patients persists even after controlling for baseline health conditions. This finding confirms that the type of health insurance affects the utilization of healthcare resources, and suggests that effective strategies are necessary to prevent the potential overutilization of inpatient care by MA patients with hypertension in Korea.
Background: Although drug-induced parkinsonism is reversible in most cases, some patients can suffer from persistent/recurrent symptoms. Therefore, prevention is the most efficient way to manage drug-induced parkinsonism. However, there is a paucity of studies exploring the relationship between parkinsonism and drug exposure. Objective: To examine the association between drug exposure and the risk of parkinsonism using Korean population-based data. Methods: We conducted a ma
Background Although randomized trials provide a high level of evidence regarding the efficacy of non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs), the results of such trials may differ from those observed in day-to-day clinical practice. Aims To compare the risk of stroke/systemic embolism (S/SE) and major bleeding (MB) between NOAC and warfarin in clinical practice. Methods Patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) who started warfarin/NOACs between January 2015 and November 2016 were retr
In South Korea, LDL-C goal achievement among patients with very high or high CV risk was suboptimal. Patients who did not achieve the goal showed a higher rate of CV events during the follow-up period than patients who achieved the goal. LDL-C management strategies should be highlighted in dyslipidemia patients who are less likely to achieve the goal, such as female, overweight or obese patients, patients not adherent to statin, or patients with very high or high CV risk.
These data in aggregate suggest that using DES in STEMI patients is safe and efficacious, but there are differences between RCT and observational data comparing DES and BMS.
A method of frequency and power stabilization for an internal-mirror He-Ne laser using the secondary beat frequency between the three longitudinal modes is presented. Frequency and power fluctuation was ±1 MHz (2 parts in 109) and ±0.10% over 10 000 s, respectively. The square-root Allan variance between the laser stabilized in this study and the iodine stabilized He-Ne laser was 5×10−11 at average time of τ=1 s. Furthermore, we could obtain the output power of 2 mW in a single longitudinal mode
We did not find a difference in effectiveness regarding cardiovascular outcomes between the statin plus fibrate combination therapy and the statin monotherapy after controlling for hidden bias.
Careful monitoring is warranted in patients with AF aged over 65 who were unsuitable for warfarin to reduce the incidence of inappropriate dosing and concomitant use of contraindicated drugs.
Combination therapy with BRAF inhibitors and MEK inhibitors significantly improved OS, PFS, and ORR in patients with advanced melanoma with BRAF mutation.
Patients with DME experience a heightened economic burden compared with diabetic patients without DME. The substantial and enduring economic impact observed in real-world settings underscores the need to alleviate patients' burden through preventive measures, effective management, appropriate reimbursement policies, and the development of innovative treatments. Strategies to mitigate the economic impact of DME should include proactive approaches such as expanding anti-VEGF reimbursement criteria
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between cardiovascular disease risk and alcohol consumption according to facial flushing after drinking among Korean men.
