Electrode materials exhibiting nanostructural design, high surface area, tunable pore size, and efficient ion diffusion/transportation are essential for achieving improved electrochemical performance. In this study, we successfully prepared cobalt phosphide and cobalt nanoparticles embedded into nitrogen-doped nanoporous carbon (CoP-CoNC/CC) using a simple precipitation method followed by pyrolysis-phosphatization. Subsequently, we employed CoP-CoNC/CC as the electrode for supercapacitor applica
For a low- and high-temperature superconducting (LTS/HTS) NMR magnet, an HTS insert, comprised of 50 double pancake (DP) coils, each wound with Bi2223/Ag tape, has been built at FBML. The paper describes design, assembly, and performance data (critical current, splice resistance, field homogeneity) of the HTS insert.
A flux pump coupled to a slightly dissipative NMR magnet enables the magnet to operate effectively in persistent mode. This paper presents: 1) design and operation concept of the flux pump; 2) parameters and performance results of a prototype flux pump; and 3) a plan to couple a full-scale flux pump to two NMR magnets, one comprised of low- and high-temperature (LTS/HTS) superconducting coils in which the HTS insert is dissipative and the other an all-LTS which can be artificially made resistive
In this paper we report results of two series of experiments, one performed on a double-pancake coil wound with Bi2223/Ag tape and the other on coated YBCO samples to demonstrate that an acoustic emission (AE) technique is a promising diagnostic tool to detect the presence of a "hot spot" in HTS devices. The AE technique may be used as complement to standard voltage technique to facilitate early detection of the presence of a "hot spot" in HTS devices and thus help to protect the HTS devices fro
As a component of Phase-2 LTS/HTS NMR magnet of a 3-phase program to complete a 1-GHz LTS/HTS NMR magnet by 2009, an HTS insert magnet has been assembled from 48 double-pancake (DP) coils, each wound of high-strength Bi-2223/Ag/stainless steel composite tape. The paper describes the design and actual parameters; and preliminary performance results of the insert. The results include: 1) voltage vs. current data of double pancakes; and 2) splice resistances between adjacent double-pancake coils.
The output network of the basal ganglia plays an important role in motor, associative, and limbic processing and is generally characterized by the pallidothalamic and nigrothalamic pathways. However, these connections in the human brain remain difficult to elucidate because of the resolution limit of current neuroimaging techniques. The present study aimed to investigate the mesoscopic nature of these connections between the thalamus, substantia nigra pars reticulata, and globus pallidus interna
