NAFLD improvement is associated with T2DM incidence reduction.
OBJECTIVE Previous cross-sectional studies have shown that attenuation in the pancreas seen on unenhanced computed tomography (CT) scans was inversely correlated with histologic pancreatic fat, and that fatty pancreas was associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, no longitudinal study has evaluated whether fatty pancreas increases the incidence of T2DM. We conducted a cohort study to investigate the association between fatty pancreas and the incidence of T2DM. RESEARCH DESIGN AND
PI increased in the earlobe and upper limbs on the treated side of 21 patients who received an effective SGB but not on the untreated side. The positive correlations between changes in PI and both presence of clinical signs and changes in blood flow in the skin microcirculation indicate a sympatholytic effect, suggesting that the PI could be useful in determination of the efficacy of SGB.
Acanthosis nigricans could be a reliable cutaneous marker of insulin resistance in obese Japanese children.
Fat accumulation in the liver, pancreas, skeletal muscle, and visceral bed relates to type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, the distribution of fat among these compartments is heterogenous and whether specific distribution patterns indicate high T2D risk is unclear. We therefore investigated fat distribution patterns and their link to future T2D. From 2,168 individuals without diabetes who underwent computed tomography in Japan, this case-cohort study included 658 randomly selected individuals and 146
Megalin (gp330) is the main target antigen involved in the induction of Heymann nephritis (HN), a rat model of human membranous nephropathy. Its large extracellular region contains four putative ligand-binding domains separated by spacer regions. Previously, it was reported that the second ligand-binding domain (LBD II) of megalin is involved in the pathogenesis of passive HN because it is capable of binding antibodies in vivo and initiating formation of immune deposits (ID). This study explores
Prior observational studies suggest an association between intra-pancreatic fat deposition (IPFD) and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC); however, the causal relationship is unclear. To elucidate causality, we conduct a prospective observational study using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-measured IPFD data and also perform a Mendelian randomization study using genetic instruments for IPFD. In the observational study, we use UK Biobank data (N = 29,463, median follow-up: 4.5 years) and fin
