Abstract A series of polypropylene carbonate (PPC)/ZnO nanocomposite films with different ZnO contents were prepared via a solution blending method. The morphological structures, thermal properties, oxygen permeability, water sorption, and antibacterial properties of the films were investigated as a function of ZnO concentration. While all of the composite films with less than 5 wt % ZnO exhibited good dispersion of ZnO in the PPC matrix, FTIR and SEM results revealed that solution blending did
Abstract A series of six‐membered sulfonated polyimides were synthesized using 1,4,5,8‐naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 4,4′‐diaminobiphenyl 2,2′‐disulfonic acid as the sulfonated diamine, and various nonsulfonated diamine monomers having different bridging groups. These bulky bridging groups have the capacity to increase hydrolytic stability and proton conductivity. Polyimides with bulky bridging groups showed increased solubility but exhibited lower thermal stability. The ion exchange c
Abstract The development of flexible displays and electronics is hindered by the disadvantages of polymeric window films, such as low mechanical strength, poor optical properties, and lack of folding and rolling reliability. To overcome these critical limitations, a novel colorless polyimide window film is prepared in this study using the concept of charge‐transfer complex (CTC) intensification. The resulting window film has a tensile modulus of 8.4 GPa, total transmittance of ≈90%, and yellow i
Poly(4,4′-oxydiphenylene pyromellitimide) (PMDA—ODA) films of 10–109 μm thickness were prepared from its poly(amic acid) precursor by thermal imide-ring-closure formation at various temperatures. Water sorption in the films was measured at 25°C over 22–100% relative humidity using an electromicrobalance. Water diffusion in all the films was a nearly Fickian process despite the morphological heterogeneity due to the ordered and less ordered phases. Depending upon humidity, film thickness and imid
Abstract To investigate the effect of crosslinking by a hydrophilic group on a sulfonated polyimide electrolyte membrane, sulfonated polyimide end‐capped with maleic anhydride was synthesized using 1,4,5,8‐naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 4,4′‐diaminobiphenyl, 2,2′‐disulfonic acid, 2‐bis [4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl] hexafluropropane and maleic anhydride. The sulfonated polyimides end‐capped with maleic anhydride were self‐crosslinked or crosslinked with poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate. A s
Abstract For polyimide thin films, the dielectric properties were investigated with the capacitance and optical methods. The dielectric constants of the 4,4′‐oxydianiline (ODA)‐based polyimide thin films varied from 2.49 to 3.10 and were in the following decreasing order: 3,3′,4,4′‐biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA)–ODA > 1,2,4,5‐benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PMDA)–ODA > 4,4′‐hexafluoroisopropylidene diphthalic dianhydride (6FDA)–ODA. According to the absorption of water, the
Abstract Sulfonated polyimides with tertiary nitrogen in the polymer backbone were synthesized with 1,4,5,8‐naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 4,4′‐diaminobiphenyl 2,2′‐disulfonic acid, 2‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane, and diaminoacrydine hemisulfate. They were crosslinked with a series of dibromo alkanes to improve the hydrolytic stability. The crosslinked sulfonated polyimide films were characterized for their thermal stability, ion‐exchange capacity (IEC), water uptake,
Abstract Four different structure polyimide thin films based on 1,4‐phenylene diamine (PDA) and 4,4′‐oxydianiline (ODA) were synthesized by using two different dianhydrides, pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 3,3′,4,4′‐biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), and their residual stress behavior and mechanical properties were investigated by using a thin film stress analyzer and nanoindentation method. The residual stress behavior and mechanical properties were correlated to the morphological
