Single-cell transcriptome profiling of tumour tissue isolates allows the characterization of heterogeneous tumour cells along with neighbouring stromal and immune cells. Here we adopt this powerful approach to breast cancer and analyse 515 cells from 11 patients. Inferred copy number variations from the single-cell RNA-seq data separate carcinoma cells from non-cancer cells. At a single-cell resolution, carcinoma cells display common signatures within the tumour as well as intratumoral heterogen
Young age breast cancer (YABC) has unique clinical and biological features that are not seen in older patients. Breast tumor biology is more aggressive and is associated with an unfavorable prognosis in younger women. The diagnosis of breast cancer is often delayed, resulting in their initial presentation with more advanced disease. Together, these characteristics lead to a poorer prognosis in younger women than in older women. Young women who receive breast-conserving therapy have a higher rate
The authors found no association between type of anesthesia used and the long-term prognosis of breast cancer. The results of this retrospective cohort study do not suggest specific selection of IV or inhalation anesthesia for breast cancer surgery.
HER2-low BC had a superior prognosis compared to HER2-zero BC in the non-metastatic setting, though absolute differences were modest and driven by HER2 IHC 1+ BC. ERBB2 CNV merits further investigation in HER2-negative BC.
Background In patients who are expected to achieve axillary pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), omission of axillary lymph node (LN) dissection could prevent morbidity and complications. Purpose To develop a clinical model to predict residual axillary LN metastasis in patients with clinically node-positive breast cancer after NAC by using MRI and US. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, women with clinically node-positive breast cancer who were
This large multicenter pooled data analysis suggests that a standardized protocol using image-guided VAB of a tumor bed measuring 2 cm or smaller with 6 or more representative samples allows reliable prediction of residual disease. These results could inform the design of de-escalation trials in NACT exceptional responders testing the safety of eliminating surgery.
Expression of p53 was significantly associated with pCR after NAC in patients with TNBC, suggesting that this biomarker might be particularly valuable in identifying TNBC patients prone to have residual disease after NAC.
In this study, locoregional recurrence occurred with different patterns according to BC subtypes, with younger patients having greater differences in patterns among subtypes than older patients. The findings suggest that tailoring surveillance should be recommended regarding differences in locoregional recurrence patterns according to tumor subtypes, particularly for younger patients.
Our results, based on the NHID, supports the protective effect of tamoxifen against CVE in Korean breast cancer patients aged 55 and older that is not seen with AIs. Our results can guide the selection of adjuvant hormonal treatment agents for Korean breast cancer patients based on their risk of developing CVE.
The current results suggest that FNA is feasible for the collection of tumor samples sufficient for WES analysis and that the higher purity obtained using this method may make it more reliable for genomic studies.
The newly developed and validated NGS-based multigene assay can predict the distant recurrence risk in ER-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer.
566 Background: Patients who attain a pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) have a favorable long-term outcome. In patients with pCR, it is suggested that the role of surgical excision may be limited to pathological confirmation, and thus may be omitted when pCR can be correctly predicted. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how accurately pCR can be predicted using MRI and image-guided biopsy. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 40 patients (mean age 47.1)
