허희재 교수의 연구실은 비결핵항산화박테리아(Nontuberculous mycobacteria, NTM)의 정확한 종 및 아종 분류, 특히 마이코박테리움 아위우름 복합체(MAC)와 마이코박테리움 악세수스의 항생제 내성 메커니즘을 규명하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히 클라리스로마이신과 아미카신에 대한 내성 여부를 신속하게 진단할 수 있는 분자진단 기반 기술 개발을 핵심 과제로 삼고 있으며, 임상에서의 정확한 항생제 치료 결정을 뒷받기 위한 분자생물학적 진단법을 지속적으로 개선하고 있습니다.

We evaluated the GenoType NTM-DR (NTM-DR) line probe assay for identifying <i>Mycobacterium avium</i> complex (MAC) species and <i>Mycobacterium abscessus</i> subspecies and for determining clarithromycin and amikacin resistance. Thirty-eight reference strains and 145 clinical isolates (58 MAC and 87 <i>M. abscessus</i> isolates), including 54 clarithromycin- and/or amikacin-resistant strains, were involved.
