Both stage 1 hypertension and stage 2 hypertension were associated with a greater incidence of HF and AF in the general population. The American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association BP classification system may help identify adults at higher risk for HF and AF events.
VEGF-A was overexpressed in the aortic wall of human and experimental AAA. Treatment with sFlt-1 inhibited AAA development in mice, in association with reduced neoangiogenesis, infiltration of inflammatory cells, MMP activity, and extracellular matrix degradation. These findings suggest a crucial role of VEGF-A in the development of AAA.
Data on the association between body mass index (BMI) and stroke are scarce. We aimed to examine the association between BMI and incident stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic) and to clarify the relationship between underweight, overweight, and obesity and stroke risk stratified by sex. We analyzed the JMDC Claims Database between January 2005 and April 2020 including 2,740,778 healthy individuals (Median (interquartile) age, 45 (38–53) years; 56.2% men; median (interquartile) BMI, 22.3 (20.2–24.8) k
Background The 2017 American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines lowered the threshold of blood pressure (BP) for hypertension to 130/80 mm Hg. However, the clinical significance of isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH) according to the cutoff value of the 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines was uncertain. Methods and Results We analyzed the claims database of Japan Medical Data Center (a nationwide epidemiological database). We excluded individuals who were aged <20 year
Background There have been limited data examining the age-dependent relationship of wide-range risk factors with the incidence of each subtype of cardiovascular disease (CVD) event. We assessed age-related associations between modifiable risk factors and the incidence of CVD. Methods and Results We analyzed 3 027 839 participants without a CVD history enrolled in the JMDC Claims Database (mean age, 44.8±11.0 years; 57.6% men). Each participant was categorized as aged 20 to 49 years (n=2 008 559)
Inactivation of Tace suppressed HFD-induced obesity, insulin resistance, hepatosteatosis and adipose tissue remodeling in association with increased energy expenditure, suggesting an important role of Tace in the development of obesity-induced metabolic disorders.
Japan has become an aging society, resulting in an increased prevalence of coronary artery disease. However, clinical outcomes of elderly Japanese patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remain unclear. Of the 15,227 patients in the Shinken Database, a single-hospital-based cohort of new patients, 1,214 patients who underwent PCI, was evaluated to determine the differences in clinical outcomes between the elderly (≥75 years) (n = 260) and the non-elderly (<75 years) (n = 954) pat
Repeated hospitalization due to acute decompensated heart failure (HF) is a pandemic health problem in Japan. However, it is difficult to predict rehospitalization after discharge for acute decompensated HF. We used a single hospital-based cohort from the Shinken Database 2004-2012, comprising all new patients (n = 19,994) who visited the Cardiovascular Institute Hospital. A total of 282 patients discharged after their first acute HF admission were included in the analysis. The median follow-up
