Though conventional calorimetry methods such as differential scanning calorimetry and differential thermal analysis are used generally in measuring heat of fusion, T-history method has advantages of a simple experimental apparatus and no requirements of sampling process, which is particularly useful for measuring thermophyical properties of inhomogeneous phase change materials in sealed tubes. However, the degree of supercooling used in selecting a range of latent heat release and neglecting sen
In the present study, a novel combined power cycle for solar power tower (SPT) system consisting of helium Brayton cycle (HBC) and transcritical CO2 (TCO2) for waste heat recovery is being studied for carbon-free generation. The performance of the proposed SPT based combined cycle (SPT-HBC-TCO2 cycle) is compared with SPT based basic cycle (SPT-HBC) based on exergoeconomic and thermodynamic analyses. It is concluded that the SPT-based combined cycle (SPT-HBC-TCO<
In South Korea, we are aiming for net zero energy use apartment home structures. Since the apartment structure in South Korea is generally a high-rise of 10 or more floors, the types of renewable energy applicable are limited to photovoltaic (PV) panels, solar collectors installed on the wall, or a photovoltaic thermal (PVT) hybrid panel combining both. In this study, the effect of PV, ST (Solar Thermal), and PVT systems on greenhouse gas reduction was analyzed using TRNSYS18. All three systems
Abstract A comparative analysis of a combined system comprising organic Rankine cycles (ORC) and supercritical CO 2 (sCO 2 ) cycles for concentrated solar power (CSP) applications was performed in the article. Low global warming potential (GWP) fluids were used to investigate strategies for reducing the effects on global warming. In the current study, four different combinations of the sCO 2 cycles and ORC, including basic recuperated, pre‐compression, recompression with main compressor intercoo
Abstract In this study, a Grey‐box (GB) model was developed to predict the optimum mass flow rates of inlet streams of a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger (STHE) under varying process conditions. Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating (Aspen‐EDR) was initially used to construct a first principle model (FP) of the STHE using industrial data. The Genetic Algorithm (GA) was incorporated into the FP model to attain the minimum exit temperature for the hot kerosene process stream under varying process conditi
Abstract This study investigates the spray combustion characteristics of waste cooking oil (WCO) in comparison between a swirl nozzle (SN) and a conventional nozzle (CN) of equal cross‐section. n‐Heptane, methyl decanoate, and methyl‐9‐decenoate were used as WCO substitutes in the simulation. The research primarily focuses on multiphase flow using the Lagrangian‐drop Eulerian‐fluid (LDEF) method, employing an equilibrium phase spray model (EP) for droplet behaviour analysis. The model's efficacy
Cycle test for developed phase change material(PCM) is necessary in order to assess the variation of latent heat, which decreases with time by deterioration. T-history method and measurement using heat-flux meter are appropriate for the cycle test in a tube filled with PCM because they do not need an extraction of sample in measuring heat of fusion. In the present study, these methods were applied to a PCM having a melting point below a room temperature, different to the past studies for PCMs me
Abstract Hardware‐based sensing frameworks such as cooperative fuel research engines are conventionally used to monitor research octane number (RON) in the petroleum refining industry. Machine learning techniques are employed to predict the RON of integrated naphtha reforming and isomerisation processes. A dynamic Aspen HYSYS model was used to generate data by introducing artificial uncertainties in the range of ±5% in process conditions, such as temperature, flow rates, etc. The generated data
