히로미 라쿠기 교수의 연구실은 혈관 질환과 대사질환의 분자 기전을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 레닌-안지오텐신 시스템의 역할과 혈관 평활근 세포의 증식 메커니즘을 규명하며 고혈압 및 동맥경화성 질환의 신호전달 경로를 탐구하고 있습니다. 또한 당뇨병 환자에서의 근육량 감소와 대사 조절 간의 연관성에 대한 기초 연구를 수행하고 있어, 대사질환과 관련된 조직 및 세포 수준의 병태생리학을 이해하는 데 기여하고 있습니다.

Angiotensin II (Ang II) promotes growth of vascular smooth muscle cells in vitro. Consistent with this, Ang II enhances neointimal proliferation in vivo after vascular injury, while angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors attenuate this process.
