Melanoma skin cancer is one of the most dangerous skin cancers and the main cause of skin-cancer-related mortality. Hyaluronic acid (HA) has been used as an effective transdermal delivery carrier of chemical drugs and biopharmaceuticals. In this work, a nanographene oxide-HA conjugate (NGO-HA) was synthesized for photothermal ablation therapy of melanoma skin cancer using a near-infrared (NIR) laser. Confocal microscopy and ex vivo bioimaging clearly visualized the remarkable transdermal deliver
A wearable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor has been developed as a patch type to utilize as a molecular sweat sensor. Here, the SERS patch sensor is designed to comprise a sweat-absorbing layer, which is an interface to the human skin, an SERS active layer, and a dermal protecting layer that prevents damage and contaminations. A silk fibroin protein film (SFF) is a basement layer that absorbs aqueous solutions and filtrates molecules larger than the nanopores created in the β-she
Metabolomics shows tremendous potential for the early diagnosis and screening of cancer. For clinical application as an effective diagnostic tool, however, improved analytical methods for complex biological fluids are required. Here, we developed a reliable rapid urine analysis system based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) using 3D-stacked silver nanowires (AgNWs) on a glass fiber filter (GFF) sensor and applied it to the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer. Urine sam
Titanium (Ti) and its alloys with a high mechanical strength and a small diameter can be effectively exploited for minimally invasive dental implantation. Here, we report a multipass caliber-rolled Ti alloy of Ti13Nb13Zr (MPCR-TNZ) with a high mechanical strength and strong fatigue characteristics. For further dental applications, MPCR-TNZ was surface-modified with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and loaded with osteogenic dexamethasone (Dex) via π-π stacking on the graphitic domain of RGO. The Dex
A surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor comprising silver nanowires (AgNWs) and genetically engineered M13 bacteriophages expressing a tryptophan-histidine-tryptophan (WHW) peptide sequence (BPWHW) was fabricated by simple mixing of BPWHW and AgNW solutions, followed by vacuum filtration onto a glass-fiber filter paper (GFFP) membrane. The AgNWs stacked on the GFFP formed a high density of SERS-active hot spots at the points of nanowire intersections, and the surface-coated BPWHW funct
A nano graphene oxide–hyaluronic acid (NGO–HA) conjugate was successfully prepared for target specific delivery of an anti-cancer drug loaded by π–π stacking via HA receptor mediated endocytosis. In vitro tests confirmed the pH dependent drug release and target specific anti-cancer effect of the complex.
A bioinspired nanoflower structure was fabricated on microneedle (MN) to utilize as a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor for intradermal sensing applications. On the surface of poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) MN, polydopamine (PD) was coated as an interlayer, and the hydroxyapatite (HA) which is a flower-like-structured bone mineral was crystalized via a bio-mineralization in simulated body fluid (SBF). Au was deposited on the HA-coated microneedle (HA-MN) to generate SERS eff
A label-free detection method for noninvasive biofluids enables rapid on-site disease screening and early-stage cancer diagnosis by analyzing metabolic alterations. Herein, we develop three-dimensional plasmonic hexaplex nanostructures coated on a paper substrate (3D-PHP). This flexible and highly absorptive 3D-PHP sensor is integrated with commercial saliva collection tube to create an efficient on-site sensing platform for lung cancer screening via surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) meas
Nanoscale coating of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) on commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) resulted in accelerated bone regeneration in the calvarial bone defect of rats.
For further applications of nanoconstructs in dermatology, we need efficient transdermal delivery
