Douc pointed out typos and mistakes in the French version, but should not be held responsible for those remaining!Part of Chapter 8 has a lot of common with a "reviewww" written by Christian Robert with Chantal Guihenneuc-Jouyaux and Kerrie Mengersen for the Valencia Bayesian meeting (and the Internet!).The input of the French working group "MC Cube," whose focus is on convergence diagnostics, can also be felt in several places of this book.Wally Gilks and David Spiegelhalter granted us permissi
Paraprobiotics are non-viable cells or cell fractions that have beneficial effects on the host; they may help in overcoming the limitations of probiotics and expanding their benefits. Here, we aimed to investigate their effects on lipid accumulation and the underlying mechanisms in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. A novel paraprobiotic, LAB-P, prepared from the live cells of Lactobacillus plantarum K8, effectively inhibited lipid accumulation during adipogenesis via downregulation of the key activators PPA
Persimmon (<i>Diospyros kaki</i>), a familiar and widespread fruit worldwide, is known to exhibit several physiological effects because of the presence of pharmacologically active compounds called phytochemicals. However, its high-molecular-weight compounds, particularly polysaccharides, have not been extensively studied. In this study, <i>D. kaki</i> extract (DK) was fractionated into low- and high-molecular-weight fractions (DK-L and DK-H, respectively) through ethanol fractionation, and their
(1) Background: Nanotechnology is being widely applied for anticancer strategies with few side effects. Nanoparticles (NPs) prepared from natural extracts are promising candidates for cancer treatment because of their unique physicochemical characteristics. This study aimed to prepare gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from <i>Phyllanthus emblica</i> fruit extract (PEFE) using <i>Bifidobacterium animalis</i> subsp. <i>lactis</i> (<i>B. lactis</i>) and to evaluate their anticancer activity against the hu
Our results suggest that the sFRP4 c1019G>A polymorphism may be one of the genetic factors affecting lumbar spine BMD in postmenopausal Korean women.
Inflammatory skin diseases (ISD) cause very severe itchy skin and dryness which is now a days an important issue which has to be taken care. Nanotechnology plays a main role in manufacturing cosmetic ingredients at a nanoscale size. Among different nanoparticles, gold (Au) is one of the non-toxic materials synthesized organically or inorganically. For synthesizing nanoparticles (NPs), using inorganic methods may cause some toxicity to cells, but using organic synthesis like plant extract is less
In Brief Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship of polymorphisms in the tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, TNF-β, and TNF receptor (TNFR) genes to circulating TNF, soluble TNFR (sTNFR) levels, and bone mineral density (BMD) in women. Methods: The TNF-α G(−308)A, C(−857)T, C(−863)A, T(−1031)C, TNF-β A252G, TNFRI A36G, TNFRII T676G, A1663G, A1668G, and C1690T polymorphisms were analyzed in 377 postmenopausal Korean women. The levels of serum TNF-α, TNF-β, sTNFRI, s
