This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of comorbidities in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared with the non-RA population. The 2010-2012 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), which assesses the general health status of populations in South Korea using interviews and basic health assessment, was analyzed retrospectively. Weighted prevalence and odds ratio (OR) of comorbidities were analyzed in patients with RA compared with the non-RA population. The
To determine the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in the synovial fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to investigate the regulation of VEGF-C production by major proinflammatory cytokines in fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS).The concentrations of VEGF-C, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta) were measured using an ELISA method in synovial fluids obtained from 20 patients with RA and 20 with osteoarthritis (OA). Prim
PUMA can induce apoptosis by FLS and represents a potential target in RA.
We documented 61 CP patients including 10 IgG4-related cases. CP involved the abdominal aorta in most patients and the thoracic aorta in approximately 50% of patients. IgG4-related CP patients were older and had greater pancreas involvement, but disease outcomes appeared to be similar between IgG4-related and non-IgG4-related CP.
Diagnosing Behcet's disease (BD) is challenging because of the lack of a diagnostic biomarker. The purposes of this study were to investigate distinctive metabolic changes in urine samples of BD patients and to identify urinary metabolic biomarkers for diagnosis of BD using gas chromatography/time-of-flight-mass spectrometry (GC/TOF-MS). Metabolomic profiling of urine samples from 44 BD patients and 41 healthy controls (HC) were assessed using GC/TOF-MS, in conjunction with multivariate statisti
The predominance of male patients is more prominent among Korean patients with SpA compared with Caucasians. Female nr-axSpA patients had late symptom onset and less progression to AS. X-ray changes at baseline were associated with radiographic progression.
Inadequate apoptosis contributes to synovial hyperplasia in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Recent study shows that low expression of Puma might be partially responsible for the decreased apoptosis of fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS). Slug, a highly conserved zinc finger transcriptional repressor, is known to antagonize apoptosis of hematopoietic progenitor cells by repressing Puma transactivation. In this study, we examined the expression and function of Slug in RA FLS. Slug mRNA expression was me
