Guided by the theory of reasoned action, this study built a model to examine the ways in which mental health literacy (MHL), personal stigma, self-stigma, and social support collectively influence attitudes toward mental health help-seeking. A sample of 211 participants (age range 22–64; 67.62% females) from a cross-sectional survey that examined MHL of local public housing staffs in Texas were included in a structural equation modeling analysis. MHL directly influenced attitudes. Personal and s
BiVO4 has been formed into heterojunctions with other metal oxide semiconductors to increase the efficiency for solar water oxidation. Here, we suggest that heterojunction photoanodes of Si and BiVO4 can also increase the efficiency of charge separation and reduce the onset potential of the photocurrent by utilizing the high conduction band edge potential of Si in a dual-absorber system. We found that a thin TiO2 interlayer is required in this structure to realize the suggested photocurrent dens
Lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) is a major phospholipid component of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) and is implicated in its atherogenic activity. This study investigated the effects of LPC on cell viability, intracellular calcium homeostasis, and the protective mechanisms of chlorogenic acid (CGA) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). LPC increased intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) by releasing Ca2+ from intracellular stores and via Ca2

Abstract Network analysis to examine infectious contact relations provides an important means to uncover the topologies of individual infectious contact networks. This study aims to investigate the spread of diseases among individuals over contact networks by exploring the 2015 Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) outbreak in Korea. We present several distinct features of MERS transmission by employing a comprehensive approach in network research to examine both the traced relationship matrix
Abstract Modified carbon powders are attractive electrocatalysts for chemical conversion due to their low cost and high activity. Here, we demonstrate that electrochemical conversion activities of CO 2 to CO in aqueous media are enhanced by the incorporation of transition metals into nitrogen‐doped carbon (M−N/C; M=Fe, Co, Cu). The type of the metals is thereby critical to achieve selective CO production over H 2 . Among M−N/C and N/C catalysts, Fe−N/C exhibited the highest faradaic efficiency f
To characterize genotypic and phenotypic traits of Staphylococcus aureus isolates (n = 86) from lettuces and raw milk, major virulence-associated genes and antibiotic susceptibility were detected using PCR-based methods and disk diffusion method, respectively. All isolates possessed coagulase gene and showed five polymorphism types [500 bp (2.4%), 580 bp (17.4%), 660 bp (61.6%), 740 bp (17.4%), and 820 bp (1.2%)] due to variable numbers of tandem repeats present within the gene. Two or three dif
Sequence comparison of individual genes in the prfA virulence gene cluster (pVGC), a central virulence gene cluster, from different Listeria species indicated that priming sites within the genes appeared to be specific for Listeria monocytogenes exclusively. Therefore, the pVGC was targeted for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays to detect and specifically identify L. monocytogenes. Each gene of the pVGC was specifically amplified in L. monocytogenes but not in other Listeria species.
As the number of research grants distributed to academic research in science has been continuously increasing, it is necessary to examine various factors that affect research quality. While there have been a large number of studies on factors that affect research productivity or performance, their empirical results have been quite inconclusive and conflicting. We argue that one of the reasons for mixed results involves the measurement of research performance. To tackle the problem, we measure th
