Perioperative risk factors were identified for acute kidney injury (AKI) defined by the RIFLE criteria (RIFLE = risk, injury, failure, loss, end stage) after surgery on the thoracic aorta with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) in this case-control study. A retrospective review was completed for 702 patients who underwent surgery on the thoracic aorta with CPB. A total of 183 patients with AKI were matched 1:1 with patients without AKI by a propensity score. Matched variables included age, gender, bod
Serum klotho was an independent biomarker of LVMI, but not arterial stiffness.
This trial was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov on 26 June 2012 ( https://clinicaltrials.gov;NCT01630486 ).
Our results demonstrate that mLOs can reproduce parenchymal and non-parenchymal cell interactions and suggest that their application can advance the precise modeling of liver diseases in vitro.
Controlled trials NCT01101113.
Reflection-mode ultraviolet photoacoustic microscopy (UV-PAM) is capable of imaging cell nuclei in thick tissue without complex preparation procedures, but it is challenging to distinguish adjacent nuclei due to the limited spatial resolution. Tissue expansion technology has recently been developed to exceed the diffraction-limited fluorescence microscopies, but it is accompanied by limitations including additional staining. Herein, photoacoustic expansion microscopy (PAExM) is presented, which
Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) have pleiotropic roles in embryonic and postnatal growth and differentiation. Most serum IGFs are bound in a ternary complex with IGF-binding protein 3 (IGFBP3) and acid-labile subunit (ALS), extending the serum half-life of IGFs and regulating their availability. Here, we report cryo-EM structure of the human IGF1/IGFBP3/ALS ternary complex, revealing the detailed architecture of a parachute-like ternary complex and crucial determinants for their sequential an
Although lower education was a significant risk factor for peritonitis and technique failure, it was not associated with increased mortality in PD patients. Comprehensive training and multidisciplinary education may overcome the lower education level in PD.
Metabolic acidosis is common in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and may have various deleterious consequences. Arterial stiffness in CKD patients is associated with poor cardiovascular outcomes. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between serum bicarbonate and arterial stiffness using the baseline cross-sectional data set of a large-scale Korean CKD cohort. 2,238 CKD patients were enrolled in the KoreaN Cohort Study for Outcome in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease (KNOW-CKD) from
Higher BUN levels derived from inappropriately high protein intake relative to renal function were associated with low hemoglobin levels and the increased risk of anemia independent of eGFR in NDCKD patients.
Our study has shown that CRF has negative correlation with OW/OB in children and adolescents of Chungju city. We suggest that improvement of CRF through regular physical activity would be an important method for reducing the metabolic risks of childhood obesity.
15-deoxy-delta(12,14)-PGJ(2)(15d-PGJ(2)) is a natural ligand that activates the peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor (PPAR) gamma, a member of nuclear receptor family implicated in regulation of lipid metabolism and adipocyte differentiation. Recent studies have shown that 15d-PGJ(2) is the potent anti-inflammatory agent functioning via PPARgamma-dependent and -independent mechanisms. Most postulated mechanisms for anti-inflammatory action of PPARgamma agonists are involved in inhibiting
