Intestinal metaplasia (IM) is a pre-malignant condition of the gastric mucosa associated with increased gastric cancer (GC) risk. Analyzing 1,256 gastric samples (1,152 IMs) across 692 subjects from a prospective 10-year study, we identify 26 IM driver genes in diverse pathways including chromatin regulation (ARID1A) and intestinal homeostasis (SOX9). Single-cell and spatial profiles highlight changes in tissue ecology and IM lineage heterogeneity, including an intestinal stem-cell dominant cell
Postesophagectomy gastric outlet obstruction occurs in 20 % – 30 % of patients who undergo esophagectomy and is associated with significant morbidity and delayed recovery [1]. Recently, endoscopic pyloromyotomy, also called gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), has been reported, in pigs and in a patient with refractory diabetic gastroparesis [2] [3]. We report a case of postesophagectomy delayed gastric emptying that was successfully treated with endoscopic pyloromyotomy.
The effect of curing history on the residual stress behaviors in semiflexible structure poly(4,4′-oxydiphenylene pyromellitimide) (PMDA–ODA) and rigid structure poly(p-phenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA–PDA) polyimide was investigated. Depending upon the curing history and different structures of polyimide, the residual stress behaviors and the morphology of polyimide thin films were detected in situ by using a wafer bending technique and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), respectively.
The effect of high boiling point solvent on the residual stress behaviors of semiflexible structure poly(4,4′-oxydiphenylene pyromellitimide) (PMDA-ODA) and pseudo-rodlike poly(p-phenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-PDA) polyimide was investigated. As a solvent, a mixed solution of 20 wt % cyclohexyl-2-pyrrolidone (CHP; bp = 307 °C) and 80 wt % n-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP; bp = 202 °C) was used. The effects of solvent system and imidizing history on the morphological structure, as well as r
Low ERp57 expression independently predicts a poor outcome for patients with cervical cancer, supporting the notion that ERp57 may be a promising novel cancer target.
Podocyte loss is well known to play a critical role in the early progression of diabetic nephropathy. A growing number of studies are paying attention to necroptosis, a programmed form of cell necrosis as a mechanism of podocyte loss. Although necroptosis is a recently established concept, the significance of receptor interacting serine/threonine kinase 3 (<i>RIPK3</i>), a gene that encodes for the homonymous enzyme RIPK3 responsible for the progression of necroptosis, is well studied. Curcumin,
Long-term outcomes of ESD are comparable with surgery for patients with SESCC. For early major complications and duration of hospital stay, ESD was associated with better outcomes than radical surgery. These results support ESD as the preferred treatment option for SESCC.
Gastroparesis (GP) is a syndrome characterized by delayed gastric emptying in the absence of mechanical obstruction of the stomach or proximal small bowel. Currently available dietary and medical therapies are limited and have suboptimal efficacy. Pylorus-directed therapies have showed promising results. Gastric peroral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) has been reported for the treatment of GP refractory to standard therapy with promising results. This article reviews the current applications and res
Copolyimide thin film, which has low-level stress and stress relaxation induced by water sorption, was characterized for potential applications as an encapsulant, a stress-relief buffer, and in interlayer dielectrics. The polyimides examined were poly(p-phenylene pyromellitimide) (PMDA-PDA) and poly(p-phenylene biphenyltetracarboximide) (BPDA-PDA) as well as their random copolyimides with various compositions. These copolyimide films exhibited good combinations of physical and mechanical propert
Esophageal stricture after extensive endoscopic submucosal dissection impairs the quality of life of patients with superficial esophageal carcinoma. Beyond the limitations of conventional treatments including endoscopic balloon dilatation and the application of oral/topical corticosteroids, several cell therapies have been recently attempted. However, such methods are still limited in clinical situations and existing setups, and the efficacies are less in some cases since the transplanted cells
