Under the conditions of transfer hydrogenation employing an iridium catalyst generated in situ from [Ir(cod)Cl]2, chiral phosphine ligand (R)-BINAP or (R)-Cl,MeO-BIPHEP, and m-nitrobenzoic acid, allyl acetate couples to allylic alcohols 1a-c, aliphatic alcohols 1d-l, and benzylic alcohols 1m-u to furnish products of carbonyl allylation 3a-u with exceptional levels of asymmetric induction. The very same set of optically enriched carbonyl allylation products 3a-u are accessible from enals 2a-c, al
Protocols for highly enantioselective carbonyl allylation from the alcohol or aldehyde oxidation level are described based upon transfer hydrogenative C-C coupling. Exposure of allyl acetate to benzylic alcohols 1a-i in the presence of an iridium catalyst derived from [IrCl(cod)]2 and (R)-BINAP delivers products of C-allylation 2a-i. Employing isopropanol as terminal reductant, exposure of allyl acetate to aryl aldehydes 3a-i in the presence of an iridium catalyst derived from [IrCl(cod)]2 and (
Under the conditions of transfer hydrogenation employing an ortho-cyclometallated iridium catalyst generated in situ from [Ir(cod)Cl](2), 4-cyano-3-nitrobenzoic acid and the chiral phosphine ligand (S)-SEGPHOS, alpha-methyl allyl acetate couples to alcohols 1a-1j with complete levels of branched regioselectivity to furnish products of carbonyl crotylation 3a-3j, which are formed with good levels of anti-diastereoselectivity and exceptional levels of enantioselectivity. An identical set of optica
A mild, practical and efficient palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative ortho-acylation of O-methyl ketoximes with α-keto acids via C-H bond activation is described. In these reactions, a broad range of O-methyl ketoximes and α-keto acids undergoes the decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions with high selectivities and good tolerance.
A palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative acylation of phenylacetamides with α-oxocarboxylic acids via C-H bond activation is described. This protocol provides efficient access to a range of ortho-acyl phenylacetamides, which can be easily converted to 3-isochromanone derivatives.
Palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative acylation of highly substituted indolines with α-keto acids via C-H bond activation is described. This protocol provides efficient access to C7-carbonylated indoles known to have diverse biological profiles.
The rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H functionalization followed by intramolecular annulation reactions between azobenzenes and sulfoxonium ylides is described. This protocol leads to the efficient formation of 3-acyl (2 H)-indazoles with a range of substrate scope. A high level of chemoselectivity and functional group tolerance of this transformation were also observed.
There is a recognized need in the area of explosives detection for fluorescence-based sensing systems that are capable of not only producing a turn-on response but also generating a distinctive spectral signature for a given analyte. Here, we report several supramolecular ensembles displaying efficient fluorophore displacement that give rise to an increase in fluorescence intensity upon exposure to various nitroaromatic compounds. The synthetic supramolecular constructs in question consist of a
Gastrodia elata Blume (GE) has long been used in oriental countries as a traditional herbal medicine to relieve symptoms associated with neurological ailments such as vertigo, general paralysis and epilepsy. In this study, we have investigated the effects of GE extracts and its major bioactive components on 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+)-treated MN9D dopaminergic cells, a classic in vitro model for Parkinson's disease (PD). We found that vanillyl alcohol effectively inhibited the cytotoxicit
The ability to alkylate pyridines and quinolines is important for their further development as pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, and for other purposes. Herein we describe the unprecedented reductive alkylation of pyridine and quinoline N-oxides using Wittig reagents. A wide range of pyridine and quinoline N-oxides were converted into C2-alkylated pyridines and quinolines with excellent site selectivity and functional-group compatibility. Sequential C-H functionalization reactions of pyridine a
The ruthenium-catalyzed oxidative allylation of aromatic and α,β-unsaturated carboxamides with allylic carbonates is described. These transformations proceed readily with complete linear γ-selectivity of substituted allylic carbonates.
The transient directing group promoted C(sp2)-H functionalization of benzaldehydes with anthranils by a cationic rhodium(III) catalyst is described. Notably, anthranils have been used as both transient directing groups and amination sources to afford 2-acyl acridines through direct C-H amination followed by acid-mediated cyclization. A range of substrate scopes and functional group tolerance were observed.
Exposure of carboxylic acids 1a-12a to commercially available 1,1-dimethylallene in the presence of substoichiometric quantities of an iridium catalyst prepared in situ from [Ir(cod)Cl]2 and BIPHEP provides the corresponding 1,1-dimethylallyl (reverse prenyl) esters 1b-12b in 74-92% isolated yield. This protocol represents the first branch-regioselective allene hydrocarboxylation. Stoichiometric byproducts are not generated in this process and protecting groups are not required for alcohols, phe
The rhodium(iii)-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of 8-methylquinolines with a range of allylic alcohols in water is described. This approach leads to the synthesis of various γ-quinolinyl carbonyl compounds, which are synthetically useful precursors for the construction of bioactive tetrahydroquinoline and azasteroid derivatives.
