Insop Shim 교수의 연구실은 신경염증과 뇌 기능 이상 간의 연관성을 중심으로 정신질환, 우울증, 항암 치료 후 인지기능 저하 등 뇌-면역 상호작용의 기전을 규명하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히 신경염증 매개 단백질인 사이토카인의 역할과 천연물 성분(예: 인삼 사포닌)이 뇌 기능에 미치는 영향을 동물 모델을 통해 연구하고 있습니다. 또한 인지기능 향상 약물의 작용 기전을 PET 영상과 행동 분석을 통해 실시간으로 평가하고 있습니다.

A considerable number of patients with breast cancer complain of cognitive impairment after chemotherapy. In this study, we showed that donepezil enhanced memory function and increased brain glucose metabolism in a rat model of cognitive impairment after chemotherapy using behavioral analysis and positron emission tomography (PET).
