Jae Chun Choe 교수의 연구실은 곤충 및 절연류의 성적 행동, 사회성 진화, 부모 돌봄 행동의 진화적 기원과 기작을 중심으로 연구를 전개하고 있습니다. 특히 흰지네, 메뚜기, 진드기 등 다양한 무척추류에서 관찰되는 짝짓기 전략, 성적 선택, 사회적 행동의 기원과 환경적 요인의 영향을 탐구합니다. 연구는 행동 생물학과 진화 생물학의 이론적 틀을 기반으로 하여, 생태적 압력이 성적 선택과 사회성 진화에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 다룹니다.

Geographic variations in call characters as well as mitochondrial DNA sequences were largely stratified by geographic factors such as distance and barriers in Korean populations of H. japonica. Although we did not detect effects of habitat or interspecific interaction, some other selective factors such as sexual selection might still be operating on call characters in conjunction with restricted gene flow.

Two sympatric species of Zoraptera in central America, Zorotypus barberi Gurney and Z. gurneyi Choe, exhibit distinctively divergent mating behaviors before, during, and after copulations. Males of the common freshwater goby Rhinogobius brunneus , which provide paternal care, have a first dorsal fin (FDF) that is markedly longer and more elaborate in colour and shape than that of females. Females showed a clear preference for males with longer FDFs, but mated randomly with respect to male body size ( L s ) and nest size. The colony founding phase is a unique period in the life cycle of social insects in which young reproductives have an option to be either solitary or social. We review the literature on pleometrosis in ants with a special emphasis on the founding processes by Azteca constructor and A. xanthacroa nesting in Cecropia trees. Azteca colonies are established in three distinct ways: by single queens, by single–species groups of queens, and by mixed–species groups. Pleometrotic colonies of both single
