Patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) may experience neuropathic symptoms, such as back pain, radiating pain, and neurogenic claudication. Although the long-term outcomes of both nonsurgical and surgical treatments are similar, surgery may provide shortterm benefits, including improved symptoms and lower risk of falling. Decompression is mainly used for surgical treatment, and depending on the decompression degree and associated instability, combination therapy may be given. Minimally invas
The female Koreans appeared to have a high prevalence of GJH. The incidence of GJH decreased as age increased as a result of decreased mobility of the fifth finger on the dominant side.
We present a patient diagnosed with emphysematous osteomyelitis in vertebral bodies caused by E coli and successfully treated with surgical intervention.
Can we recognize intraoperative real-time stress of orthopedic surgeons and which factors affect the stress of intraoperative orthopedic surgeons with EEG and HRV? From June 2018 to November 2018, 265 consecutive records of intraoperative stress measures for orthopedic surgeons were compared. Intraoperative EEG waves and HRV, comprising beats per minute (BPM) and low frequency (LF)/high frequency (HF) ratio were gathered for stress-associated parameters. Differences in stress parameters accordin
Cefepime-induced neurotoxicity, including nonconvulsive status epilepticus, has been reported especially in patients with renal impairment. However, focal nonconvulsive status epilepticus is very rare and cefepime-induced aphasic status epilepticus proven by electroencephalography have never been reported to our knowledge. We present an interesting case of aphasic status epilepticus mimicking acute stroke in a patient treated by cefepime.
To investigate the epidemiology of congenital scoliosis (CS) and treatment trends. An age-matched, nationwide, population-based study was conducted using the National Health Insurance and Health Insurance Review and Assessment databases from 2010 to 2015. Data regarding the diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis were extracted using International Classifications of Diseases, 10th revision codes. The age-matched normal population was determined from the Korean Statistical Information Service databa
Smokers in male samples were at higher risk for LBP and related spinal diseases than nonsmokers.
This study describes a new and safe freehand cervical pedicle screw insertion technique using preoperative computed tomography (CT) morphometric measurements as a guide and a medial pedicle pivot point (MPPP) during the procedure. This study included 271 pedicles at 216 cervical spine levels (mean: 4.75 pedicles per patient). A pedicle diameter (PD) ≥ 3.5 mm was the cut-off for pedicle screw fixation. The presence and grade of perforation were detected using postoperative CT scans, where perfora
Our results suggest that, during a five-year followup, CBT screws for TLIF were an effective treatment compared to TP screws in the setting of single-level lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis. However, when using CBT screws for TLIF, surgeons should consider the higher rate of secondary procedures to treat symptomatic adjacent segment disease.
The design and ratio of the cortico-cancellous composition of allograft spacers are associated with graft-related problems, including subsidence and allograft spacer failure. Methods: The study analyzed stress distribution and risk of subsidence according to three types (cortical only, cortical cancellous, cortical lateral walls with a cancellous center bone) and three lengths (11, 12, 14 mm) of allograft spacers under the condition of hybrid motion control, including flexion, extension, axial r
Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a common degenerative spinal condition where spinal canal narrowing causes symptoms such as neurogenic claudication, radiculopathy, and lower back pain. While non-operative and surgical approaches yield similar long-term outcomes, surgical intervention-particularly decompression-can provide earlier symptom relief, functional recovery, and fall prevention in selected patients with refractory symptoms. Recent advancements in surgical technologies and image guidance
