The forest therapy program did not induce prolonged systolic blood pressure (SBP) reduction. However, considering the significant decrease in cortisol level and improvement in QoL measures, this may be a useful model of community hypertension management program.
This study is to estimate the effect of Korean red ginseng on vascular endothelial cell dysfunction in patients with hypertension. Seventeen patients with hypertension who were divided into ginseng-treated (7) and non-treated (10) groups and 10 normotensive subjects were included. To assess the function of the vascular endothelial cell, changes of forearm blood flow to infusion of acetylcholine, sodium nitroprusside and bradykinin in incremental doses were measured by venous occlusion plethysmog
In this large cross-sectional study, higher levels of serum triglycerides were significantly associated with an increasing prevalence of both non-advanced and advanced colorectal adenomas, while higher levels of ApoA-1 and HDL cholesterol were significantly associated with an increasing prevalence of non-advanced adenomas.
In normotensive individuals, increased arterial stiffness, as reflected by baPWV, is accompanied by higher SBP at the early stage of treadmill exercise test. This finding suggests that arterial stiffening processes are present even in the normotensive setting and are correlated with BP changes during exercise.
Background and Objectives There has been a need for functional status measurement tool with better validity than the existing tools such as New York Heart Association Functional Class.Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) is a representative example of a tool that was developed to enhance the validity of measurement by asking the patients about the ability to perform specific activities and scoring the response.Because such a tool must be culture-sensitive, it is desirable to use ' Koreanized' versi
Heart rate (HR) recovery after exercise is a function of vagal reactivation, and its impairment is a predictor of overall mortality and adverse cardiovascular events. While metabolic syndrome is associated with sympathetic overactivity, little is known about the relationship between metabolic syndrome and HR recovery. A symptom-limited exercise stress test in healthy subjects (n=1, 434) was used to evaluate HR recovery. Metabolic syndrome was defined according to the National Cholesterol Educati
An upward shift of socioeconomic status was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular mortality after adjustment for baseline socioeconomic status, conventional risk factors and risk-reducing pharmacological treatments.
Calcium scoring may be clinically more useful in older (> or =50 years) participants and/or in participants with the metabolic syndrome because of the relatively higher probability of obtaining additional information that the conventional Framingham risk estimation cannot provide.
Inpatient cardiac rehabilitation (ICR) has been commonly conducted after cardiac surgery in many countries, and has been reported a lots of results. However, until now, there is inadequacy of data on the status of ICR in Korea. This study described the current status of exercise therapy in ICR that is performed after cardiac surgery in Korean hospitals. Questionnaires modified by previous studies were sent to the departments of thoracic surgery of 10 hospitals in Korea. Nine replies (response ra
