In this work, a structurable gel‐polymer electrolyte (SGPE) with a controllable pore structure that is not destroyed after immersion in an electrolyte is produced via a simple nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method. This study investigates how the regulation of the nonsolvent content affects the evolving nanomorphology of the composite separators and overcomes the drawbacks of conventional separators, such as glass fiber (GF), which has been widely used in sodium ion batteries (SIBs),
High-intensity focused ultrasound is safe and effective, which induced excellent local tumor control in most patients with advanced PC.
Flux balance analysis (FBA) in combination with the decomposition of metabolic networks into elementary modes has provided a route to modeling cellular metabolism. It is dependent, however, on the availability of external fluxes such as substrate uptake or growth rate before estimates can become available of intracellular fluxes. The framework classically does not allow modeling of metabolic regulation or the formulation of dynamic models except through dynamic measurement of external fluxes. Th
The cross-sectional review of data collected in 1995, 2000, and 2005 showed an increase in reflux esophagitis and peptic ulcer diseases. Meanwhile, the prevalence of gastric cancer increased until 2000, but decreased in 2005.
Polyp size (large), shape (pedunculated), and location (right hemi-colon) represented substantial risk factors for the development of delayed hemorrhage after colonoscopic polypectomy.
Since the 1918 influenza A virus (IAV) pandemic, H1N1 viruses have circulated in human populations. The hemagglutinin (HA) of IAV determines viral antigenicity and often undergoes N-linked glycosylation (NLG) at several sites. Interestingly, structural analysis of the 1918 and 2009 H1N1 pandemic viruses revealed antigenic similarities attributable to the conserved epitopes and the NLG statuses of their HA proteins. NLG of the globular head of HA is known to modulate the antigenicity, fusion acti
Influenza A virus has evolved and thrived in human populations. Since the 1918 influenza A pandemic, human H1N1 viruses had acquired additional N-linked glycosylation (NLG) sites within the globular head region of hemagglutinin (HA) until the NLG-free HA head pattern of the 1918 H1N1 virus was renewed with the swine-derived 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus. Moreover, the HA of the 2009 H1N1 virus appeared to be antigenically related to that of the 1918 H1N1 virus. Hence, it is possible that descendants
For women of childbearing age with acute pain in the upper right abdomen alone or together with pain in the lower abdomen, Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome should be considered during differential diagnosis. Moreover, in cases suspected to be Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome, abdominal CT, rather than abdominal sonography, assists in the diagnosis.
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) has been described as an important etiologic agent of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, especially in young children and the elderly. Most of school-aged children might be introduced to HMPVs, and exacerbation with other viral or bacterial super-infection is common. However, our understanding of the molecular evolution of HMPVs remains limited. To address the comprehensive evolutionary dynamics of HMPVs, we report a genome-wide analysis of the eight genes
We demonstrate strong experimental support for the cybernetic model based on maximizing carbon uptake rate in describing the microorganism's regulatory behavior by verifying exacting predictions of steady state multiplicity in a chemostat. Experiments with a feed mixture of glucose and pyruvate show multiple steady state behavior as predicted by the cybernetic model. When multiplicity occurs at a dilution (growth) rate, it results in hysteretic behavior following switches in dilution rate from a
High-dose GSPE has a strong protective effect against NSAID-induced gastric mucosal injury, which may be associated with the antioxidant effects of GSPE.
Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causes severe cases of human respiratory disease. Since 2012, the victims have mainly come from the Middle East countries or sporadically from some other geographical regions seeded by the travelers who visited the Middle East. Such an introduction through travelling led to the emergence of a MERS-CoV outbreak in Korea in May 2015, which caused more than 140 confirmed human cases in less than a month. Using 70 complete genome sequences of M
Neither the morning dose and the divided dose regimen of lansoprazole affected the intragastric acidity and occurrence of the NAB. NAB did not influence H. pylori eradication in peptic ulcer patients, but the duration of NAB and total intragastric median pH were found to influence the H. pylori eradication.
Abstract Since the first human case was reported in Wuhan Province, China in December 2019, SARS-CoV-2 has caused millions of human infections in more than 200 countries worldwide with an approximately 4.01% case-fatality rate (as of 27 July, 2020; based on a WHO situation report), and COVID-19 pandemic has paralyzed our global community. Even though a few candidate drugs, such as remdesivir (a broad antiviral prodrug) and hydroxychloroquine, have been investigated in human clinical trials, thei
