Histotroph is required for survival and development of ovine conceptuses (embryo and extraembryonic membranes). Results from our laboratory indicate that arginine (Arg), leucine (Leu), glutamine (Gln), and glucose increase in the uterine lumen between Days 10 and 15 of pregnancy, coincident with increases in expression of amino acid and glucose transporters by uterine epithelia as well as trophectoderm and yolk sac of conceptuses and elongation of the conceptus trophectoderm. Therefore, we hypot
We report on the preparation of transparent oriented titania nanotube (NT) photoelectrodes and the effect of illumination direction on light harvesting, electron transport, and recombination in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) incorporating these electrodes. High solar conversion efficiency requires that the incident light enters the cell from the photoelectrode side. However, it has been synthetically challenging to prepare transparent TiO(2) NT electrodes by directly anodizing Ti metal films
Various noble metal-free electrocatalysts have been explored to enhance the overall water splitting efficiency. Ni-based compounds have attracted substantial attention for achieving efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts. Here, we show superior electrocatalysts based on NiFe alloy electroformed by a roll-to-roll process. NiFe (oxy)hydroxide synthesized by an anodization method for the OER catalyst shows an overpotential of 250 mV at 10 mA cm<sup
A silver‐based joining technique referred to as reactive air brazing has been recently developed for joining high‐temperature structural ceramic components of the type used in gas turbines, combustion engines, heat exchangers, and burners. It was found that additions of copper oxide to silver exhibit a tremendous effect on both the wettability and joint strength characteristics of the subsequent braze relative to polycrystalline alumina substrates. The effect is particularly significant at low c
During the peri-implantation and early placentation periods in pigs, conceptuses (embryo and its extra-embryonic membranes) undergo dramatic morphological changes and differentiation that require the exchange of nutrients (histotroph) and gasses across the trophectoderm and a true epitheliochorial placenta. Of these nutrients, arginine (Arg), leucine (Leu), and glutamine (Gln) are essential components of histotroph; however, little is known about changes in their total amounts in the uterine lum
Highly efficient copper-zinc-tin-selenide (Cu2ZnSnSe4 ; CZTSe) thin-film solar cells are prepared via the electrodepostion technique. A metallic alloy precursor (CZT) film with a Cu-poor, Zn-rich composition is directly deposited from a single aqueous bath under a constant current, and the precursor film is converted to CZTSe by annealing under a Se atmosphere at temperatures ranging from 400 °C to 600 °C. The crystallization of CZTSe starts at 400 °C and is completed at 500 °C, while crystal gr
Centrifugal casting of composites and ceramics has been widely employed to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of functional materials. This powerful method has yet to be deployed in the context of nanoparticles--yet size-effect tuning of quantum dots is among their most distinctive and application-relevant features. Here we report the first gradient nanoparticle films to be constructed in a single step. By creating a stable colloid of nanoparticles that are capped with electronic-cond
Numerous studies have explored new materials for electrocatalysts, but it is difficult to discover materials that surpass the catalytic activity of current commercially available noble metal electrocatalysts. In contrast to conventional transition metal alloys, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have immense potential to maximize their catalytic properties because of their high stability and compositional diversity as oxygen evolution reactions (OERs). This work presents medium-entropy alloys (MEAs) as
RuO2 is one of the most important electrocatalyst materials as a key component of dimensionally stable anode (DSA) for chlorine evolution reaction, because of the high catalytic activity, while anodic corrosion remains a fundamental challenge that must be addressed. Here, we demonstrate that low-temperature annealing of RuO2 nanoparticles (∼1.7 nm) supported on Nb-doped TiO2 leads to the formation of durable active sites with superior activity and product selectivity toward active chlorine gener
Reaction of 3-aminopropylsilyl-modified ZnO microrods with trioctylphosphineoxide-coated CdSe/CdS core/shell nanocrystals in THF produces rod-shaped nanoparticle clusters that show directional photoemission that can be tuned with the size of the CdSe nanocrystals. The observed waveguiding effect of these microstructures is due to total internal reflection of light at the cluster-air interface.
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate clinical effects of deep cervical flexor (DCF) muscles exercise on pain, Neck Disability Index (NDI), and neck and shoulder postures in patients with chronic neck pain. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-eight patients with chronic neck pain were randomly assigned into either the general strengthening exercise (GSE) group or the DCF activation group as control and experimental groups, respectively. All exercises were performed three times per wee
Chrome poisoning effects of various Cr-containing metal sources on the electrochemical performance of the (LSCF6428) cathode have been investigated. It was found that chromia-forming metals caused significant fade in power density due to the chrome poisoning, while alumina-forming alloys exhibited no influence on the cell degradation. This degradation caused by the chrome poisoning was accelerated at higher operating temperatures. Microstructural analysis conducted on the cells tested with chrom
