Stroke patients with Takotsubo-like myocardial dysfunction may differ from those without in clinical outcomes, laboratory findings, and radiological features.
Subcorticocortical lesions and multiple lesions are radiological predictors of recurrent ischemic stroke in symptomatic patients with intracranial arterial stenosis. Clinical Trial Registration- URL: www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00130039.
Although careful interpretation is necessary due to several study limitations, we have demonstrated that statin use in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage is likely associated with improved mortality and functional outcomes.
Background and Purpose- We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the efficacy and safety of cilostazol as a mono or combination (plus aspirin or clopidogrel) treatments compared to conventional single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT, mainly aspirin) for secondary stroke prevention. Methods- Randomized controlled trial studies were searched across multiple comprehensive databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane) for review. The primary outcome was recurrent stroke comprising ischem
We aimed to develop a novel prediction model for early neurological deterioration (END) based on an interpretable machine learning (ML) algorithm for atrial fibrillation (AF)-related stroke and to evaluate the prediction accuracy and feature importance of ML models. Data from multicenter prospective stroke registries in South Korea were collected. After stepwise data preprocessing, we utilized logistic regression, support vector machine, extreme gradient boosting, light gradient boosting machine
CE and ICAD have heterogeneous radiologic characteristics depending on the risk of embolism and the degree of carotid stenosis.
Metabolic syndrome is associated with the progression of early carotid atherosclerosis in the general population, suggesting that metabolic syndrome plays an important role in initiating the atherosclerotic process.
This study provides Class II evidence that prestroke use of antiplatelet agents reduces stroke severity in patients with first-ever acute ischemic stroke.
C-IMT and plasma homocysteine levels were found to predict cardiovascular and all-cause mortality independently of the presence of carotid plaque and other cardiovascular risk factors.
Results of this cohort study suggest that reducing alcohol consumption is associated with a decreased risk of future CVD, with the most pronounced benefits expected for angina and ischemic stroke.
Background: Statins lower the risk of recurrent stroke and mortality and improve outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke. However, the effects of statins on atrial fibrillation (AF)-related stroke are not well-established. Our study aims to investigate the effects of statin therapy on the clinical outcomes in patients with AF-related stroke. Methods: Electronic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, and Scopus) were searched for previous studies on the effects of pre- and post-stroke statin
The relationship between infections and stroke has not been fully characterized, probably delaying the development of specific treatments. This narrative review addresses mechanisms of stroke linked to infections, including hypercoagulability, endothelial dysfunction, vasculitis, and impaired thrombolysis. SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, may promote the development of stroke, which may represent its most severe neurological complication. The development of specific therapies for infe
