A rGO/TiO2 free standing film has been fabricated via a simple and facile vacuum filtration system. The composite electrode showed improved electrochemical properties compared to the pure rGO due to the highly expanded layer-structure.
Our results indicate the regulation of STAT3 by NO-based post-translational modification (S-nitrosylation). These findings have important implications for the development of new therapeutics targeting STAT3 for treating diseases associated with inflammatory/immune responses and abnormal cell proliferation, including cancer.
There are recommendation systems everywhere in our daily life. The collection of personal data of users by a recommender in the system may cause serious privacy issues. In this article, we propose the first privacy-preserving matrix factorization for recommendation using fully homomorphic encryption. Our protocol performs matrix factorization over encrypted users’ rating data and returns encrypted outputs so that the recommendation system learns nothing on rating values and resulting user/item p
Artificial intelligence (AI) has a limitation in that it is only in the passive cognition area, so its operating process is not transparent; therefore, the technology relies on learning data. Since raw data for AI learning are processed and inspected manually to assure high quality for sophisticated AI learning, human errors are inevitable, and damaged and incomplete data and differences from the original data may lead to unexpected outputs of AI learning for which processed data are used. In th
Intelligent video surveillance environments enable the gathering of various types of information about the object being recorded, through the analysis of real-time video data collected from CCTV systems and the automated processing that utilize the information. However, the surveillance environments face the risks of privacy exposure, which necessitates secure countermeasures. Video meta-data, in particular, contain various types of personal information that is analyzed based on big data and are
This paper deals with the one-dimensional static and dynamic analysis of thin-walled closed beams with general quadrilateral cross sections. The coupled deformations of distortion as well as torsion and warping are investigated in this work. A new approach to determine the functions describing section deformations is proposed. In particular, the present distortion function satisfies all the necessary continuity conditions unlike Vlasov's distortion function. Based on these section deformation fu
We report the results of an axion dark matter search over an axion mass range of 9.39-9.51 μeV. A flux-driven Josephson parametric amplifier (JPA) was added to the cryogenic receiver chain. A system noise temperature of as low as 200 mK was achieved, which is the lowest recorded noise among published axion cavity experiments with phase-insensitive JPA operation. In addition, we developed a two-stage scanning method which boosted the scan speed by 26%. As a result, a range of two-photon coupling
There are many interests to achieve long-range magnetic order in topological insulators of Bi2Se3 or Bi2Te3 by doping magnetic transition metals such as Fe and Mn. The transition metals act as not only magnetic dopants but also electric dopants because they are usually divalent. However, if the doping elements are rare-earth metals such as Gd, which are trivalent, only magnetic moments can be introduced. We fabricated single crystals of Bi2-xGdxTe3 (0 ≤ × ≤ 0.2), in which we observed magnetic ph
Background and Aims. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a highly effective treatment option for refractory Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). FMT may be challenging in patients with a low performance status, because of their poor medical condition. The aims of this study were to describe our experience treating patients in poor medical condition with refractory or severe complicated CDI using FMT via the upper GI tract route. Methods. This study was a retrospective review of seven eld
The clockwork mechanism can explain interactions which are dimensionally very weak without the need for very large mass scales. We present a model in which the clockwork mechanism generates the very small Higgs portal coupling and dark matter particle mass necessary to explain cold dark matter via the freeze-in mechanism. We introduce a TeV-scale scalar clockwork sector which couples to the Standard Model via the Higgs portal. The dark matter particle is the lightest scalar of the clockwork sect
A bstract We consider an extension of the Standard Model that accounts for the muon g − 2 tension and neutrino masses and study in detail dark matter phenomenology. The model under consideration includes a WIMP and a FIMP scalar dark matter candidates and thus gives rise to two-component dark matter scenarios. We discuss different regimes and mechanisms of production, including the novel freeze-in semi-production, and show that the WIMP and FIMP together compose the observed relic density today.
Abstract Background Malaria continues to impose a tremendous burden in terms of global morbidity and mortality, yet even today, a large number of diagnoses are presumptive resulting in lack of or inappropriate treatment. Methods In this work, a two-colour lateral flow immunoassay (LFA) system was developed to identify infections by Plasmodium spp. and differentiate Plasmodium falciparum infection from the other three human malaria species ( Plasmodium vivax , Plasmodium ovale , Plasmodium malari
Abstract. In 1978, Rivest, Adleman and Dertouzos introduced the basic concept of privacy homomorphism that allows computation on encrypted data without decryption. It was elegant work that precedes the recent development of fully homomorphic encryption schemes although there were found some security flaws, e.g., ring homomorphic schemes are broken by the knownplaintext attacks. In this paper, we revisit one of their proposals, in particular the third scheme which is based on the Chinese Remainde
The current study proposes a framework to provide an optimal distribution of energy dissipation devices for low- and mid-rise framed buildings using an artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy inference system (FIS). Three illustrative framed buildings to be retrofitted using steel slit dampers are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework. Two hundred natural earthquake records are used to consider variability in seismic ground motions, and 33,600 nonlinear time hist
