Jiro Nakayama 교수의 연구실은 아기부터 어린이에 이르는 초기 생애 단계에서 장내 미생물군의 형성과 발달 메커니즘을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히 산모의 출산 방식, 항생제 노출, 식생활 변화 등 환경적 요인이 장내 미생물군집과 숙주의 면역계 발달에 미치는 영향을 분석하며, 장내 미생물과 숙주의 상호작용을 이해하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 또한, 병원성 박테리아의 병원성 조절 메커니즘인 '쿼럼 센싱'을 타겟으로 한 천연물질의 항병원성 작용 규명에도 기여하고 있습니다.

Gut microbial ecology and function are dynamic in infancy, but are stabilized in childhood. The 'new friends' have a great impact on the development of the digestive tract and host immune system. In the first year of life, especially, the gut microbiota dramatically changes through interactions with the developing immune system in the gut. The process of establishing the gut microbiota is affected by various environmental factors, with the potential to be a main determinant of life-long health.
