Intensive research in the field of cancer biology has revealed unique methods of communication between cells through extracellular vesicles called exosomes. Exosomes are released from a broad spectrum of cell types and serve as functional mediators under physiological or pathological conditions. Hence, blocking the release of exosome bio carriers may prove useful for slowing the progression of certain types of cancers. Therefore, efforts are being made to develop exosome inhibitors to be used bo
Mammalian phospholipase D (PLD) has been implicated in the cellular signal transduction pathways leading to diverse physiological events and known to be regulated by many cellular factors. To identify the proteins that interact with PLD, we performed a protein overlay assay with fractions obtained from the sequential column chromatographic separation of rat brain cytosol using purified PLD2 as a probe. A protein of molecular mass 40 kDa, which was detected by anti-PLD antibody with overlaying of
One of the main goals in genome sequencing projects is to determine a haploid consensus sequence even when clone libraries are constructed from homologous chromosomes. However, it has been noticed that haplotypes can be inferred from genome assemblies by investigating phase conservation in sequenced reads. In this study, we seek to infer haplotypes, a diploid consensus sequence, from the genome assembly of an organism, Ciona intestinalis. The Ciona intestinalis genome is an ideal resource from w
The enhanced migration found in tumor cells is often caused by external stimuli and the sequential participation of cytoskeleton-related signaling molecules. However, until now, the molecular connection between the lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) receptor and nonmuscle myosin II (NM II) has not been analyzed in detail for LPA-induced migration. Here, we demonstrate that LPA induces migration by activating the LPA(1) receptor which promotes phosphorylation of the 20 kDa NM II light chain through acti
Squamous metaplasia with decreased goblet cell density and increased nucleus-to-cytoplasm ratio occurred in anophthalmic conjunctival sockets but was not associated with particular aspects of prosthesis care.
It has been established that protein kinase Czeta (PKCzeta) participates in diverse signaling pathways and cellular functions in a wide variety of cells, exhibiting properties relevant to cellular survival and proliferation. Currently, however, the regulation mechanism of PKCzeta remains elusive. Here, for the first time, we determine that phospholipase D2 (PLD2) enhances PKCzeta activity through direct interaction in a lipase activity-independent manner. This interaction of the PLD2-Phox homolo
These results suggest that AMPK-mediated PLD1 activation is required for (14)C-glucose uptake through ERK stimulation. We propose that the AMPK-mediated PLD1 pathway may provide crucial clues to understanding the mechanisms involved in glucose uptake.
Physicians should be aware of the possibility of PHS after a deep brain stimulation procedure. If the patient shows unexplained changes in consciousness with hyperpyrexia after surgery, PHS should be considered and adequate treatment should be given immediately to prevent death.
Transplantation and drug discovery programs for liver diseases are hampered by the shortage of donor tissue. While recent studies have shown that hepatic cells can be derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs), few cases have shown selective enrichment of hESC-derived hepatocytes and their integration into host liver tissues. Here we demonstrate that the dissociation and reaggregation procedure after an endodermal differentiation of hESC produces spheroids mainly consisted of cells showing
In an in vitro coculture system, rabbit notochordal cells reduced the levels of main inflammatory mediators and gene expression in the human AF during inflammation. Therefore, rabbit notochordal cells may constitute an important protective tool against symptomatic disc development.
Bilateral subdural fluid collections due to underlying SIH is associated with young age (≤55 years old), no underlying diseases, smaller amount of fluid collections (≤22.08 mm of depth), and radiological findings of brain sagging or pseudo-subarachnoid hemorrhages.
