Jun-ichi Kira 교수의 연구실은 신경계 자가면역질환, 특히 다발성 경화증(MS)과 뇌실성 경화증(NMO)의 유전적 기반과 면역학적 기전을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 아시아형 MS와 서양형 MS의 임상적·유전적 차이를 규명하고, AQP4 항체, NF155 항체 등 신경질환과 관련된 바이오마커를 탐색하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 또한, HTLV-I 관련 신경질환과 CIDP, ANCA 및 IgG4 관련 하이퍼프로테이네미아 등 퇴행성 뇌신경질환의 분자 기전에 대한 기초 연구도 활발히 수행하고 있습니다.

The polymorphism of HLA-DRB1, -DRB3, and -DRB5 genes as well as magnetic resonance images of the brain and spinal cord were studied in 57 Japanese patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Our findings suggest distinct cytokine/chemokine alterations in CSF exist among NMO, RRMS and PPMS. In NMO, over-expression of a cluster of Th17- and Th1-related proinflammatory cytokines/chemokines is characteristic, while in PPMS, increased CCL4 and CXCL10 levels may reflect on-going low grade T cell and macrophage/microglia inflammation in the central nervous system. In RRMS, only a mild elevation of proinflammatory cytokines/chemokines was detectable at relapse.
Anti-NF155 antibodies occur in a subset of CIDP patients with distal-dominant involvement and symmetric nerve hypertrophy.
HP is not extremely rare. ANCA-related HP is the most frequent form, followed by IgG4/MFS-related HP. Both forms have unique features, which may help to differentiate background causes.
