The single electron transistor (SET) is fabricated using the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) as a fabrication process, and the fabricated SET operates at room temperature. Using the STM tip as a cathode, the surface of the titanium metal can be oxidized, and the few tens of nanometer wide oxidized titanium line can be made. The small island region of the SET of ∼30×∼35 nm2 is formed by the oxidized titanium line. The Coulomb staircase of 150 mV period is observed in the current–voltage chara
This review summarizes the use of ionic liquids in Na secondary batteries and discusses their electrochemical performance with various electrode materials.
Understanding ion transport in electrolytes is crucial for fabricating high-performance batteries. Although several ionic liquids have been explored for use as electrolytes in Na secondary batteries, little is known about the transport properties of Na+ ions. In this study, the thermal and transport properties of Na[FSA]-[C3C1pyrr][FSA] (FSA–: bis(fluorosulfonyl)amide and C3C1pyrr+: N-methyl-N-propylpyrrolidinium) ionic liquids were investigated in order to determine their suitability for use as
Fluoroacid-base reactions of a room-temperature ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium fluorohydrogenate (EMIm(HF)2.3F, EMIm = 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium cation), and Lewis fluoroacids (BF3, PF5, AsF5, NbF5, TaF5 and WF6) give EMIm salts of the corresponding fluorocomplex anions, EMImBF4, EMImPF6, EMImAsF6, EMImNbF6, EMImTaF6 and EMImWF7, respectively. Attempts to prepare EMImVF6 by both the acid-base reaction of EMIm(HF)2.3F with VF5 and the metathesis of EMImCl with KVF6 failed due to the
Ultra fine oxidized titanium (Ti) lines 18 nm wide and 3 nm high have been formed on the surface of a 4 nm Ti layer on a SiO 2 /Si substrate using the scanning tunneling microscope [STM] tip as a selective anodization electrode. The dependence of the size of the oxidized titanium line on the various parameters is investigated. The formed oxidized titanium line has resistivity of 2×10 4 ohm cm, which is a value seven orders of magnitude higher than that of the deposited Ti layer. The oxidized Ti
A single-electron memory was fabricated using the improved pulse-mode atomic force microscopy nano oxidation process which oxidized the surface of the thin titanium (Ti) metal on the atomically flat α-alumina (α-Al2O3) substrate and formed the narrow oxidized titanium (TiOx) line that works as a tunnel junction for the device. This single-electron memory consists of the multitunnel junction and a memory capacitance. The single-electron transistor, which works as an electrometer, was connected to
Application of a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and an atomic force microscopy (AFM) to electron devices and an optical device are introduced in this paper. Using STM tip/AFM cantilever as a cathode, surfaces of a metal or a semiconductor are oxidized to form a few tens of nanometers-wide oxidized metal line or an oxidized semiconductor line, which works as an energy barrier for an electron. A single-electron transistor (SET), a photoconductive switch, and a high-electron mobility transisto
Room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs), N-alkyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium and N-alkyl-N-methylpiperidinium fluorohydrogenates formulated by and propyl, and butyl), have been synthesized by the reactions of the corresponding chlorides and anhydrous hydrogen fluoride. These RTILs exhibit relatively low viscosities (11.5-34.4 cP), high conductivities (12.3-74.6 mS cm−1), and wide electrochemical widows around 5 V using glassy carbon electrodes. The fluorohydrogenate salts of symmetric cations, N,N-dime
Graphene has strong potential for electrical biosensing owing to its two-dimensional nature and high carrier mobility which transduce the direct contact of a detection target with a graphene channel to a large conductivity change in a graphene field-effect transistor (G-FET). However, the measurable range from the graphene surface is highly restricted by Debye screening, whose characteristic length is less than 1 nm at physiological ionic strength. Here, we demonstrated electrical biosensing uti
A series of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium fluorohydrogenate salts (C(x)MIm(FH)(2)F, x=8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18) have been characterized by thermal analysis, polarized optical microscopy, IR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and anisotropic ionic conductivity measurements. Liquid crystalline mesophases with a smectic A interdigitated bilayer structure are observed from C(10) to C(18), showing a fan-like or focal conic texture. The temperature range of the mesophase increases with the increase in th
