Abstract We search for ultra-light axions as dark matter (DM) and dark energy particle candidates, for axion masses 10 -32 eV ≤ m a ≤ 10 -24 eV, by a joint analysis of cosmic microwave background (CMB) and galaxy clustering data — and consider if axions can resolve the tension in inferred values of the matter clustering parameter S 8 . We give legacy constraints from Planck 2018 CMB data, improving 2015 limits on the axion density Ω a h 2 by up to a factor of three; CMB data from the Atacama Cos
Abstract Galaxy imaging surveys provide us with information on both the galaxy distribution and their shapes. In this paper, we systematically investigate the sensitivity of galaxy shapes to new physics in the initial conditions. For this purpose, we decompose the galaxy shape function into spin components, and compute the contributions to each spin component from both intrinsic alignment and weak lensing. We then consider the angular-dependent primordial non-Gaussianity, which is generated by a
Long-wavelength matter inhomogeneities contain cleaner information on the nature of primordial perturbations as well as the physics of the early Universe. The large-scale coherent overdensity and tidal force, not directly observable for a finite-volume galaxy survey, are both related to the Hessian of large-scale gravitational potential and therefore are of equal importance. We show that the coherent tidal force causes a homogeneous anisotropic distortion of the observed distribution of galaxies
Although large-scale perturbations beyond a finite-volume survey region are not direct observables, these affect measurements of clustering statistics of small-scale (subsurvey) perturbations in large-scale structure, compared with the ensemble average, via the mode-coupling effect. In this paper we show that a large-scale tide induced by scalar perturbations causes apparent anisotropic distortions in the redshift-space power spectrum of galaxies in a way depending on an alignment between the ti
Using $N$-body simulations of cosmological large-scale structure formation, for the first time, we show that the anisotropic primordial non-Gaussianity causes a scale-dependent modification, given by $1/{k}^{2}$ at small $k$ limit, in the three-dimensional power spectra of halo shapes (intrinsic alignments), whilst the conventional power spectrum of halo number density field remains unaffected. We discuss that wide-area imaging and spectrocopic surveys observing the same region of the sky allow
We investigate impacts of long-wavelength gravitational waves (GWs) on nonlinear structure formation by utilizing the tidal separate universe simulations. Based on the equivalence of a long-wavelength GW to a uniform tidal field in a local frame, we provide a way to incorporate a long-wavelength GW into the tidal separate universe simulation as an effective anisotropic expansion. This methodology enables us to study effects of GWs on large-scale structure efficiently. We measure the anisotropic
Abstract It has been recognized that the observables of large-scale structure (LSS) is susceptible to long-wavelength density and tidal fluctuations whose wavelengths exceed the accessible scale of a finite-volume observation, referred to as the super-sample modes. The super-sample modes modulate the growth and expansion rate of local structures, thus affecting the cosmological information encoded in the statistics of galaxy clustering data. In this paper, based on the Lagrangian perturbation th
Abstract Understanding the nonlinear relation between the shapes of halos or galaxies and the surrounding matter distribution is essential in accurate modeling of their intrinsic alignments. In the perturbative treatment, such nonlinear relation of the intrinsic alignments appears as higher-order shape bias parameters. In this paper, we present accurate measurements of the quadratic shape bias parameters by combining the full three-dimensional power spectrum of the intrinsic alignments (i.e., wi
The super-sample tidal effect carries information on long-wavelength fluctuations that we cannot measure directly. It arises from the mode-coupling between short-wavelength and long-wavelength perturbations beyond a finite region of a galaxy survey and violates statistical isotropy of observed galaxy power spectra. In this paper, we propose the use of bipolar spherical harmonic (BipoSH) decomposition formalism to characterize statistically anisotropic power spectra. Using the BipoSH formalism, w
Abstract As well as the galaxy number density and peculiar velocity, the galaxy intrinsic alignment can be used to test the cosmic isotropy. We study distinctive impacts of the isotropy breaking on the configuration-space two-point correlation functions (2PCFs) composed of the spin-2 galaxy ellipticity field. For this purpose, we build a formalism for general types of the isotropy-violating 2PCFs and a methodology to efficiently compute them by generalizing the polypolar spherical harmonic decom
The galaxy bias parameters are crucial for modeling the large-scale structure in cosmology, yet uncertainties in these parameters often degrade the precision of cosmological constraints. In this work, we investigate how different Halo Occupation Distribution (HOD) models impact the priors of the galaxy bias parameters, particularly focusing on quadratic bias parameters. We generate galaxy mock catalogs using various HOD models, including a standard model and one incorporating halo concentration
