Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation showed a survival benefit over conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation in patients who received cardiopulmonary resuscitation for >10 mins after witnessed inhospital arrest, especially in cases with cardiac origins.
TVR can be performed and low operative mortality can be achieved thorough optimal perioperative management in the current era.
Cardiac arrest caused by acute pulmonary embolism is associated with high patient mortality. We reviewed patients who had cardiac arrest caused by acute pulmonary embolism. Between January 2001 and September 2013, we identified 20 patients at our institution with a confirmative diagnosis of acute pulmonary thromboembolism and cardiac arrest. Percutaneous cardiopulmonary support (PCPS) and surgical embolectomy are the standard course of care for patients with shock or cardiac arrest caused by pul
We aimed to assess the predictive value of fibrin-based thromboelastometry performed before weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) for cryoprecipitate administered to correct the bleeding diathesis after CPB involving deep hypothermic circulatory arrest. Eleven patients undergoing aortic surgery were enrolled. The arterial blood was withdrawn before skin incision, 30 min before CPB weaning (Cweaning), 5 min after protamine reversal (Preversal) and at closure of the sternum to run intrinsicall
We investigated the utility of comprehensive scoring systems for organ failure compared with the duration of extracorporeal life support (ECLS) in predicting survival after heart transplantation. From November 2004 to August 2013, 25 adult patients ultimately underwent heart transplantation while on ECLS. We did not include patients who were younger than 18 years old or patients with extracorporeal ventricular assist devices. Seven patients (28%) died within 1 year after transplantation. The are
VSR seems to be equivalent to the Bentall procedure for AAD in terms of early and late outcomes. VSR can be considered as a viable option, particularly for young patients with favorable aortic valve leaflets undergoing surgery at an experienced center.
Older patients who had ECPR had significantly worse survival and neurological outcomes. For patients older than age 66 years, more careful patient selection is critically important for improving the efficacy of ECPR.
Immunologically untreated frozen-stored xenografts show controlled rejection and repair due to reduced cellularity in our previous study. To clarify the issue, we compared results obtained using fresh and frozen-stored xenografts. Porcine pulmonary valved conduits were prepared without immunologic treatment and implanted in the right ventricular outflow tract of goats under cardiopulmonary bypass immediately after harvest without frozen storage (the fresh group) or after frozen storage (-70 degr
