We have observed a deeply bound state of the --14 N system that decayed into twin singlehypernuclei in nuclear emulsion exposed in the E373 experiment at KEK-PS. The process is uniquely identified as -+ 14 N 10 Be + 5 He. We have measured the binding energy of the --14 N system, B -, to be 4.38 0.25 MeV, which is significantly larger than that of the --14 N 3D atomic state (0.17 MeV), if both single-hypernuclei are emitted in the ground state from at-rest capture of a -hyperon. If the 10 Be nucl
Recent studies have revealed that the stretch reflex responses of both ankle flexor and extensor muscles are coaugmented in the early stance phase of human walking, suggesting that these coaugmented reflex responses contribute to secure foot stabilization around the heel strike. To test whether the reflex responses mediated by the stretch reflex pathway are actually induced in both the ankle flexor and extensor muscles when the supportive surface is suddenly destabilized, we investigated the ele
We describe a preclinical study of our original hybrid artificial liver support system (HALSS) for a clinical trial. We designed a HALSS comprising a multi-capillary polyurethane foam packed-bed module (MC-PUF module) containing a total 200 g (2 x 10(10) cells) porcine hepatocytes, and an extracorporeal circulation device. Almost all porcine hepatocytes in the MC-PUF module formed many spherical multicellular aggregates (spheroids). This extracorporeal circulation device was improved to promote
