코스케 카타오카 교수의 연구실은 미토콘드리아 생물학과 단백질 품질 관리 시스템에 중점을 두고 있으며, 특히 라이브스톡 유전자학과 신경생물학적 모델로 활용되는 메뚜기류 및 메뚜기(개미핥이)의 미토콘드리아 게놈 분석을 통해 진화적 유전체학적 관계를 규명하고 있습니다. 또한, 미토콘드리아 내 단백질 분해 효소인 Lon 프로테아제와 관련된 질병 관련 단백질인 Cereblon의 기능적 역할, 특히 산화 스트레스에 대한 세포 보호 기전을 탐구하고 있습니다. 이와 더불어, 세포 부착 및 기계적 자극에 대한 세포 반응을 연구하기 위해 생체막재료(PDMS)의 표면 기능화 기술을 응용한 세포 생물학적 연구도 수행하고 있습니다.
