Kuniyoshi Shimizu 교수의 연구실은 천연물에서 유래한 생활학적 활성 성분의 도출과 기능 평가를 중심으로, 당뇨, 피부 색소침착, 암세포 성장 억제 등 다양한 질병 예방에 기여할 수 있는 신소재를 개발하고 있습니다. 특히 올리브 엔진 폐기물, 대나무, 참나무 심장목, 스트링리스 벌 제품 등 다양한 식물 및 천연 자원에서 활성 성분을 분리하고, 그 기전을 생화학적·생물학적 분석을 통해 규명하고 있습니다. 연구는 주로 효소 억제, 항산화 작용, 세포 독성 평가 등을 통해 실질적인 의약적 응용 가능성을 탐색합니다.

The methanol extract of heartwood of Artocarpus incisus showed potent 5 alpha-reductase inhibitory activity. Our effort to find new material for anti cancer from natural resources leads us to focus on stingless bee products such as honey, bee pollen, and propolis. The products were from seven stingless bees named <i>Homotrigona fimbriata, Heterotrigona itama, Heterotrigona bakeri, Tetragonula sarawakensis, Tetragonula testaceitarsis, Tetragonula fuscobalteata, Tetragonula laeviceps.</i> The stingless bee products were evaluated for their cytotoxicity effect on MCF-7, HeLa and Caco-2 cancer cell lines.

Phytochemical examination of corncob extracts led to the isolation of a new lignan identified as 7,7'-dihydroxy-3'-O-demethyl-4-methoxymatairesinol, together with seven known compounds, identified as β-sitosterol, β-sitosteryl-β-D-glucoside, 6β-hydroxy-campest-4-en-3-one, 5α,8α-epidioxyergosta-6,22-dien-3β-ol, tricin, kaempferol and p-coumaric acid.
