We have used immunohistochemistry to examine the dynamics of tumor hypoxia.. Expression of CAIX is known to be influenced by tumor hypoxia, and this protein has been shown to be an endogenous hypoxia marker in several models. However, due to its long half-life, it could also be present in oxygenated tissue that had recently been hypoxic. To investigate this issue we have compared CAIX expression to the exogenous hypoxia marker, pimonidazole using HT29 (human colorectal cancer) xenografts. We man
Patients with pT1-2N0-1 breast cancer who underwent total mastectomy without PMRT could be stratified by nodal stage and risk factors for LRR. PMRT may have of value for node negative patients aged less than 50 years and who are not treated with adjuvant chemotherapy, and for non-luminal type patients with one to three positive nodes.
This study showed that in vivo dosimetry using TLD during HDR ICR could have a useful role as a predictor of late rectal complications. Dose limitation to the rectum could possibly be achieved by thorough vaginal packing or use of an applicator with proper shielding while maintaining a high dose to the tumor.
We retrospectively compared accelerated hypofractionation (AHF) with conventional fractionation (CF) in the radiation therapy (RT) for early-stage breast cancer patients.Three hundred seventy-nine early-stage (pT1-2 and pN0-1a) breast cancer patients who received RT with AHF after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) were included. These patients were matched with 379 corresponding patients who received BCS and RT with CF at a different center with respect to the year BCS was performed, patient age (
Once-per-day APBI afforded excellent locoregional control and fewer toxicities compared with AWBI. This scheme could be an attractive alternative to AWBI in patients who meet the ASTRO-APBI guidelines.
The European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology-Advisory Committee in Radiation Oncology Practice (ESTRO-ACROP) updated a new target volume delineation guideline for postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) after implant-based reconstruction. This study aimed to evaluate the impact on breast complications with the new guideline compared to the conventional guidelines. In total, 308 patients who underwent PMRT after tissue expander or permanent implant insertion from 2016 to 2021 were included; 184
