후지타 교수의 연구실은 전이금속을 이용한 분자 자가조립 기반의 다차원 구조물 설계를 핵심으로 합니다. 특히 팔라듐(II)과 platnum(II) 이온이 갖는 90도의 정렬 각도를 응용해, 고리형, 케이지, 캡슐, 다면체 등 다양한 형태의 분자 구조를 정량적 수율로 자가조립합니다. 이는 열역학적 조건에서의 자가조립 전략을 통해 기존의 고리형 화합물 합성의 난이도를 극복한 혁신적 접근입니다. 특히 수용액에서도 기능하는 인식성 분자 수용체의 개발에도 성공하여 응용 가능성을 넓혔습니다.

The [enPd(II)]2+ (en = ethylenediamine) unit has emerged as a versatile building block in molecular self-assembly. In particular, the 90° coordination angle of the metal has been judiciously used in the design of new discrete two- and three-dimensional structures. This article reviews recent progress in the study of the transition-metal mediated self-assembly of two- and three-dimensional synthetic receptors. Whereas macrocyclization under kinetic control is undoubtedly an unfavorable process, the self-assembly strategy offers quite efficient methods for constructing macrocycles under thermodynamic control. This article deals with a coordination approach to three-dimensional assemblies via ‘molecular paneling’. Families of planar exo-multidentate organic ligands (molecular panels) are found to assemble into large three-dimensional assemblies through metal-coordination. Drawing inspiration from the self-assembly of hollow spherical virus capsids and protein cages found in nature, a family of roughly spherical coordination polyhedra with general formula MnL2n was designed and several members of the series have been synthesised.
