This study included patients with primary triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) who underwent resection without neoadjuvant chemotherapy between January 2004 and December 2014. Among the 248 TNBCs studied, programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression was detected in 103 (41.5%) tumors, and high levels of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) were present in 118 (47.6%) tumors. PD-L1 expression correlated with high levels of TILs, but was not a prognostic factor. Patients with TILs-high tumor
Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are important therapeutic drugs for postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. However, adverse effects of AIs such as arthralgia have been extensively reported. We performed a joint prospective, multi-institutional investigation to find out whether a low-dose and short-term prednisolone is effective against AI-induced arthralgia in 27 patients with breast cancer. Patients were administered 5 mg of oral prednisolone once a day in the morning for
The Japanese Breast Cancer Society (JBCS) registry began data collection in 1975, and it was integrated into National Clinical Database in 2012. As of 2016, the JBCS registry contains records of 656,896 breast cancer patients from more than 1400 hospitals throughout Japan. In the 2016 registration, the number of institutes involved was 1422, and the total number of patients was 95,870. We herein present the summary of the annual data of the JBCS registry collected in 2016. We analyzed the demogr
Precision oncology with next generation sequencing (NGS) using tumor tissue with or without blood has begun in Japan. Tumor molecular profiling tests are available, including the OncoGuide™ NCC Oncopanel System and FoundationOne® CDx (F1CDx). Our purpose was to identify potentially actionable genetic alterations in breast cancer with this comprehensive tumor profiling test. We enrolled 115 patients with pathologically diagnosed advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Comprehensive tumor
Catumaxomab combined with activated T-cells may be a potent therapeutic modality to overcome chemoresistant EpCAM-positive TNBC cells.
Clinical use of Herceptin (trastuzumab), which is a humanized monoclonal antibody against HER2, started for patients with HER2-overexpressing breast cancer. To potentiate the efficacy of the Herceptin therapy, this study focused on the combination of Herceptin with activated immune lymphocytes. We used peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) as effector cells and used HER2-unexpressing K562 cells, HER2-weakly-expressing breast carcinoma cells (Breast-M), or HER2-strongly-expressing breast car
The 66.4% patients of TNBCs showed BRCAness. BRCAness is essential as a biomarker in the subclassification of TNBCs and might be of use for predicting their prognosis. Furthermore, this biomarker might be a predictive factor for the effectiveness of anthracycline-based adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with TNBCs.
Radiotherapy (RT) is one of the most important treatments for prostate cancer. Although RT can kill cancer cells through direct and indirect effects of radiation, it occasionally induces an abscopal effect whereby localized radiation treatment is associated with elimination of metastatic cancer at a distance from the irradiated area. Thus, RT may induce an effective antitumor immune response, although the mechanism involved has remained unclear. The present was designed to evaluate this effect o
NCD data revealed that systemic treatment improved OS in pT1bc but not in pT1a node-negative HER2+ breast cancer patients. Future observational research using big-sized data is expected to play an important role in optimizing treatment for patients with early-stage breast cancer.
