In this paper, a new traffic flow model called the forward-backward velocity difference (FBVD) model based on the full velocity difference model is proposed to investigate the backward-looking effect by applying a modified backward optimal velocity using generalized backward maximum speed. The FBVD model belongs to the family of microscopic models that consider spatiotemporally continuous formulations. Neutral stability conditions of the discrete car-following model are derived using the linear

A new microscopic traffic flow model is established based on heterogeneous driver's sensitivity; in this new model, the driver's sensitivity is defined as being dependent on the headway distances to the preceding vehicle, similar to Bando's optimal velocity function. We introduce the formulation of this cognitive driver's sensitivity utilizing a modified form of Bando's optimal velocity function. A simple methodology, which is used for improving Bando's optimal velocity function, has been implem
In the present work, a two-phase frictional multiplier (Φv) correlation for the prediction of condensation pressure drop inside smooth horizontal tube has been proposed incorporating the effect of mass velocity, tube geometry and surface tension. Other existing correlations and the newly proposed correlation of two-phase frictional multiplier have been used to predict the condensation pressure drop of R1234ze(E), R32, R410A, dimethyl ether (DME) and R1234ze(E)/R32mixtures (30/70 and 45/55 weight
This work addressed the effect of heterogeneous vehicle sizes on traffic flow fields by introducing a movement control protocol. Considering a continuum traffic model, a new equilibrium velocity function that is dependent on traffic density was introduced to account for the effect of vehicle size. The established model showed a quantitative comparison between the Optimal Velocity and Full Velocity Difference models. A neutral stability test was carried out to evaluate the model's capability of n
A high resolution potentially jamming-resistant Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system is presented based on UWB-OFDM architecture. SAR images are reconstructed for Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) in jamming scenarios and in friendly environment based on Range-Doppler Algorithm (RDA). Suitable waveforms to achieve anti-jamming capabilities in case of hostile environment and high resolution image in case of friendly environment are proposed and tested for point scatterer as well as for full 2-D
Abstract The chromatic intensity and thermal mechanism are vital segment for protection of military target in ultraviolet (UV)-visible (Vis)-infrared (IR) imaging. Defense operations need to confront with UV-Vis-IR imaging to distinguish/conceal the target from combat background (CB). The key purpose of this experimentation is to develop the imaging and optical intensity concepts of chromatic appearance for concealment, detection, recognition, and identification (CDRI) of Cr oxide coated target
With the increasing rate of modern vehicles equipped with automotive radars, mutual interference among multiple radars is becoming a critical issue. This paper presents a new approach for mutual interference mitigation based on frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) chirp diversity considering long-range automotive radar. The system concept is evaluated considering realistic road traffic scenario using a ray-tracing tool. Theoretical analysis and simulation of various mutual interference sce
Accurate vehicle-positioning is an important part of intelligent transportation system (ITS). Existing positioning techniques based on Global Positioning System (GPS) are not suitable for vehicular positioning because of higher positioning errors. Recently, positioning based on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-roadside unit (V2R) communication has emerged as an alternative more accurate solution. In this paper, we present cooperative vehicular positioning technique that provides higher ac
This paper presents an empirical study of high resolution potentially jamming-resistant Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system based on UWB-OFDM architecture. The Range-Doppler Algorithm (RDA) was used to construct a high resolution SAR image for simulation purpose. Suitable waveforms to achieve high resolution SAR imaging are proposed for both friendly and hostile environments. The proposed waveforms were tested for a point scatterer and for full 2-D SAR image construction. Simulation results de
