The primarily neuronal RNA-binding protein HuD is implicated in learning and memory. Here, we report the identification of several HuD target transcripts linked to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis. HuD interacted with the 3' UTRs of APP mRNA (encoding amyloid precursor protein) and BACE1 mRNA (encoding β-site APP-cleaving enzyme 1) and increased the half-lives of these mRNAs. HuD also associated with and stabilized the long noncoding (lnc)RNA BACE1AS, which partly complements BACE1 mRNA and
The p73 gene located at 1p36.3 encodes for a protein with significant similarity to p53. To investigate the penetrance of p73 in gastric carcinogenesis, we analyzed the expression, allelotype, and mutation of p73 in five cell lines and 75 tissues. Although extremely low levels of p73 expression were observed in all noncancerous gastric tissues and four of five cell lines, a significant elevation of p73 was detected in 37 of 39 (94.9%) carcinoma tissues. Furthermore, a tumor-specific increase of
The machine learning algorithm for NPTs has suggested potential use as a reference in differentiating cognitive impairment in the clinical setting.
Based on these results, it is suggested that CIU has a negative impact on QOL in Korean patients. Therefore, it is important to recognize the effects CIU can have on QOL and consider them in evaluating the response to treatment.
Hypothetical bias is the common finding that hypothetical monetary values for "goods" are higher than real values. We extend this research to the domain of "bads" such as consumer and household choices made to avoid aversive outcomes (e.g., insurance). Previous evidence of hot-cold empathy gaps suggest food disgust is likely to be strongly underestimated in hypothetical (cold) choice. Depending on relative underestimation of food disgust and pain of spending, the hypothetical bias for aversive b
Exosomes, which are small extracellular vesicles produced from various cell types, contain a variety of molecular constituents, such as proteins, lipids, and RNA. Recently, exosomal biomarkers have been investigated to probe the understanding and diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders. Previous reports have demonstrated increased exosomal α-synuclein (α-syn) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) in comparison to healthy controls (HC). Interestingly, the cholinergic loss was revealed in the
Paper-based cognitive training might have beneficial effects on the general cognitive functions in the early stage of Alzheimer's dementia.
Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker disease (GSS) is a rare prion disease characterized by cerebellar ataxia with progressive cognitive decline.cGSS is caused by a mutation within the prion protein gene (PRNP), which commonly exhibits an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. However, a significant portion of previously reported cases show no family history of the disease, and GSS may also occur through de novo mutation of PRNP. Oy-sters cGSS is clinically heterogeneous and has no characteristic feat
Lichen amyloidosis (LA) is a chronic, severely pruritic skin disease characterized by deposition of amyloid in the skin with no visceral involvement. Current treatments of LA are unsatisfactory, with high relapse rates, complications, and treatment failures. A 31-year-old woman with a history of refractory atopic dermatitis (AD) presented with pruritic, multiple, discrete papules on the extremities and back. Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of LA. A treatment regimen of oral c
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the individual, work environment and family factors to mentally-retarded people's successful employment. The subjects were 302 mentally-retarded people who commenced work via the supported employment program from the Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled(KEPAD) from 2007-2008. The data were collected by 15 vocational evaluators from all over the country. The subjects were grouped into two clusters; ‘employment success cluster'
This study examined the effects of negative parenting attitudes on adolescents’ academic helplessness through the mediating effects of social withdrawal and smartphone dependency. Data from the panel study of Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 (KCYPS 2018) collected by the National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI) was used to examine the research model. The subjects of the study consisted of 2,541 first grade middle school students (1,375 boys and 1,166 girls). Confirmatory factor analysis
