Abstract Bias correction techniques are widely used to bridge the gap between climate model outputs and input requirements of hydrological models to assess the climate change impacts on hydrology. In addition to univariate bias correction methods, several multivariate bias correction methods were proposed recently, which can not only correct the biases in marginal distributions of individual climate variables but also properly adjust the biased intervariable correlations simulated by climate mod
Abstract Agricultural irrigation has significantly reshaped the land surface energy and water balance. Previous studies have well investigated its cooling effect on air temperature ( T air ). However, its effect on increasing air humidity which can intensify the humid heat was often overlooked, particularly over urban areas with high population density, high T air , and consequently greater exposure to moist heat stress. In this study, using state-of-the-art reanalysis data at a high spatial res
We present an interactive painting system for generating high quality and artistic calligraphy characters and black ink paintings. The system is based on our original algorithm that is unique in physically simulating the dynamic diffusion of liquid ink into absorbent painting paper. The algorithm creates remarkably realistic strokes efficiently. For rendering 20 strokes in different size, it takes only 30 seconds on a personal computer, fast enough for interactive performance. By using this syst
The rising humid heat is regarded as a severe threat to human survivability, but the proper integration of humid heat into heat-health alerts is still being explored. Using state-of-the-art epidemiological and climatological datasets, we examined the association between multiple heat stress indicators (HSIs) and daily human mortality in 739 cities worldwide. Notable differences were observed in the long-term trends and timing of heat events detected by HSIs. Air temperature (Tair) pre
Abstract In 2021, the Japanese government changed the exposure indicator of the national heat-health warning system (HHWS) from air temperature ( T air ) to Wet Bulb Globe Temperature ( T WBG ), reflecting the growing concerns about the escalating humid heat stress. However, a clear validation of the advantages of using heat stress indicators (HSIs) that combine T air and humidity in heat alerts and heat-health applications are still being explored. Here, by using the latest epidemiological data
Baiu (Meiyu) is a continuous and large-scale rainfall phenomenon in East Asia, whose extreme events have caused many disasters in recent years. Global warming will accelerate the global water cycle and tend to increase the risks of extreme precipitation events. However, to date, the response of Baiu extreme rainfall to future climate warming is still not well investigated. In this study, by conducting the ensemble experiments with a very high resolution (2 km) regional climate model and pseudo w
Rapid aging significantly increases Japan's population vulnerability to severe heat stress, yet the precise impact on heat stroke-related morbidity remains unclear. This study integrates multiple datasets and develops predictive models for daily heat stroke-related emergency ambulance dispatches (HT-EADs) among younger and older populations in Japan for 2010-2019. By adjusting the proportion of older adults and incorporating pseudo climate warming, we assessed how aging and warming could amplify
This study investigates the impact of water resource restrictions on thermoelectric and hydroelectric stations, analyzing its influence on demand and electricity prices. It uses General Circulation Models (GCMs) and Soil and Water Assessment Tools (SWAT) to forecast future temperature trends and estimate river flow patterns. The research provides insights into climate change's potential effects on water resources and electricity potential. The study shows a significant decrease in river flow, in
To obtain effective fusion results of multi source evidences with different importance, an evidence fusion method with importance discounting factors based on neutrosopic probability analysis in DSmT framework is proposed. First, the reasonable evidence sources are selected out based on the statistical analysis of the pignistic probability functions of single focal elements. Secondly, the neutrosophic probability analysis is conducted based on the similarities of the pignistic probability functi
The Fisher discrimination method is a multiple logical probabilistic discrimination method with a wide application and strong discrimination ability to financial risks.Based on the Fisher discrimination method and actual data,a system of discrimination indexes for the financial risks of Chinese universities and colleges was proposed, and a linear Fisher discrimination model was established. In addition,an empirical test was carried out on the basis of actual financial data from 72 universities and
The increasing threat of heat stress poses significant risks to human health globally. To quantify heat exposure more effectively, integrated heat stress indicators (HSIs) have been developed to simplify the classification of heat stress severity and assist in public heat warnings. However, their ability to accurately predict daily heat stroke cases has not been fully assessed. In this study, we evaluated the performance of multiple HSIs in forecasting the number of heat stroke-related emergency
A method based on MD-H model is proposed to establish the geometric parameter error model of SCARA robot and carry out error compensation. In this paper, by analyzing the causes of robot positioning accuracy error, the geometric parameter error model of SCARA robot is established through the modified MD-H model. The Jacobian matrix of the robot is calculated, and the redundancy analysis of the columns of the J matrix is carried out, and the redundant parameter columns are eliminated. Then the sa

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The continuing increasing humid heat stress is believed to be a severe threat to human survivability, and many humid heat indicators (HHIs) have been proposed to quantify its severity. However, to date, there is a lack of established epidemiological evidence linking these HHIs to city-level mortality. Here, we aim to examine the suitability of multiple HHIs in modeling/predicting city-level human mortality in addition to the commonly used meteorological exposure variable air
